3rd Sunday before Lent
A PRAYER FOR EVERYDAY
O God, who meets us, who finds us at our places of work, in our homes and communities; Holy God, who disturbs us and turns the ordinary into the extraordinary; Living God, who calls us to find you and hear your voice in the ordinariness of our daily living, help us, move in the power of your Spirit, to make places of our work into places of your glory. Lent small groups 2017- Creating connections This year we will be using a Lent course prepared for us by our bishops and other members of the bishop’s staff team themed around our diocesan vision, ‘Creating connections’. Each week we will be exploring what it means to be a disciple connected to God, each other and our communities. Groups will meet on Monday mornings or Monday or Tuesday evenings for five weeks starting on 6th March. Please sign up to indicate your interest- there is a space to let us know if another time would suit you better- we’ll see what we can arrange! ‘Show the love’ We’ll be inviting people to ‘show the love’ for places that they care about with other Wroughtonians in an initiative from the Climate Coalition over Valentine’s Day… come and see us by the Ellendune shops on Sat 11th Feb between 10am and 12 where there will be various green heart activities. Honouring our VC Sunday 2nd April at 10.30am
On Sunday 2nd April we are having a special service to mark the centenary of the act of bravery which led William Gosling to be awarded the Victoria Cross. The service will be followed by a parade to the War Memorial where a plaque in his honour will be unveiled. This service takes the place of our normal 10am service on that day.
Lent Lunches
At the recent meeting of Churches Together in Wroughton, the viability of the Friday Lent lunches was discussed. There has been a decline in numbers attending and there was some uncertainty as to what might be done: should we accept they have run their course, as it were, and be given a rest for a year or two or even be abandoned altogether. If you have any ideas on the issue, please talk to our Churches Together in Wroughton rep Ann Rainey, or the vicar.

Bible stories at the Infants school
There may be an opportunity for us to go back into Wroughton Infants School with our Open the Book assemblies about once a month at 9 am on Monday mornings. As this is a different time our old team are not all available and so if you would like to be part of the new team (no experience needed) reading/acting Bible stories please sign up on the sheet provided. The assemblies usually last less than half an hour so it would not take up your whole morning. Any questions just ask Barbara Abrey.

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD
Swindon Youth for Christ
Swindon Youth for Christ works in many of the secondary schools in Swindon. They are sometimes invited to lead assemblies or RE lessons. In some schools the BIOS van may visit at lunchtime or after school to provide opportunities for the young people to talk with the SYFC workers. Some schools may have Christian groups which SYFC are able to support.
Please pray for all the young people in Swindon’s schools, that they will be able to find out about God’s love for them.
Knitting for Seafarers
Thank you to all who have handed in hats, scarves, gloves and balaclavas. The Mission to Seafarers is grateful for donations throughout the year so please keep knitting and put your finished items in the box in church. There are a couple of balls of wool in it if you need some to get started and some suitable patterns, but you can use your own favourite patterns. Please call Janet Henderson on 525856 for more information.
This week please pray for:-
- Swindon Youth for Christ
- The Residents of Manor Close and Eyam Road
- The homeless, the unemployed, the lonely.
- For all those travelling during half term
- We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently, especially Ronald Reynolds, Pamela Selby and Colin Butler. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
