9th April 2017

Sunday 9th April 2017

God of love, my prayer is simple: Your son, Jesus, suffered and died for me. I know only that I cannot have real strength unless I rely on you. I cannot feel protected from my many weaknesses until I turn to you for forgiveness and your unalterable love. Help me to share this strength, protection and love with others. Amen

Would you like to become a server?? I know when dear Bill Ruck asked me quietly one day after the Church service if I would think of becoming a sever, it was my first step to gaining confidence to taking a more active role in Church services – I will always be grateful to Bill for giving me that gentle “push” !!! – we are looking for Volunteers to join the servers rota, if you feel God is giving you a “gentle push” to Volunteer, please speak to one of the servers or Michael about what is involved – training will be given!!!

Many thanks Cheryl

Health & Safety

The PCC has recently reviewed and updated the Church Health & Safety Policy, and all the arrangements that are in place to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the congregation, clergy and all who visit the Church premises, in any capacity. We all have a responsibility to take reasonable care of ourselves and others, so if you notice anything that is potentially unsafe, have a ‘near miss’or an accident whilst on the premises please let a sidesperson, churchwarden or member of the clergy know. If you have any concerns or questions related to health and safety, please contact the Health & Safety representative, Helena Thomas (tel 07909 882150) or a member of the PCC or clergy.

London Marathon 2017

On 23rd April, my daughter Hannah and I will be running in the London Marathon to raise money for Parkinsons UK.

Parkinsons is a disease that affects approximately 127,000 people in the UK. There is currently no cure for it but there are treatments to help manage it. The Parkinsons UK charity drives for better care, better treatment and better quality of life for those who suffer from it as well as carrying out research to find a cure. Our Just Giving address is www.justgiving.com/Hannah-Awre3 I will also have Sponsorship forms available. Your support will be greatly appreciated

 Thank You

A huge thank you to everyone at Wroughton Parish Church who has supported my London Marathon fundraising for Hospice UK. Thanks to your donations and the cake sale last Sunday, the total now raised by the church is £441. I have been so touched by everyone’s support. Thinking of your generosity will be such a huge help on April 23rd, when I am in need of motivation! Victoria Ford vjford@gmail.com

Thank You

Thank you to all those who prayed for our daughter-in-law Sharon Horlock, who you will know sadly passed away in December. Our Son / Sharon’s husband Mike, has been organising various charity events for Cancer Research UK, one of which is Cancer Research’s Shine half marathon evening walk on Sat Sept 23rd in London. Mike’s fundraising initiative ‘Cancer Ninjas’ are aiming to be the largest Shine team entry to date with 50+ people. If you would like to find out more about possibly joining in the fun with Cancer Ninjas on the walk, then do please contact me for more information on rosemary@horlocks.com before the 17th April. Many thanks. Rosemary

 Swindon Youth for Christ

Swindon Youth for Christ works in many of the secondary schools in Swindon. They are sometimes invited to lead assemblies or RE lessons. In some schools the BIOS van may visit at lunchtime or after school to provide opportunities for the young people to talk with the SYFC workers. Some schools may have Christian groups which SYFC are able to support.

Please pray for all the young people in Swindon’s schools, that they will be able to find out about God’s love for them.

Knitting for Seafarers

Thank you to all who have handed in hats, scarves, gloves and balaclavas. The Mission to Seafarers is grateful for donations throughout the year so please keep knitting and put your finished items in the box in church. There are a couple of balls of wool in it if you need some to get started and some suitable patterns, but you can use your own favourite patterns. Please call Janet Henderson on 525856 for more information.

This week please pray for:-

  • Swindon Youth for Christ
  • The Residents of Moat Walk and Scorhill Lane
  • Those suffering drought in South Sudan, Yemen, Nigeria and Somalia
  • Our Choir and Director of Music
  • Our Clergy and Lay Ministers
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently, especially, Edna Long and Brendan Carroll. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
