New Creation – Sunday 7th May

For the Parish Communion on Sunday May 7th at 10 a.m., New Creation are re-forming just for the day, in order to say a fond thank you and farewell to Canon Michael. Many of you (we hope!) will still have our CDs to hand—in particular please have a listen to the second one ‘The Flame’, as the Gloria, Sanctus and Agnus Dei will be used in the service. We will practise them with you on the day as well. We are really looking forward to the service. Please, if you are in touch with any non-parishioners who would like to come, would you invite them along?

Thy Kingdom Come- global wave of prayer-  25th May – 4th June

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement, which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops’ of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer. There will be a number of opportunities to meet to pray for ourselves, our nation and our world and the chance to take part in a prayer posada! Think about which country God might be calling you to pray for particularly during this time and the posada will be explained…

Wroughton Carnival- Saturday 1st July Last year we were able to support the carnival by providing stewards for the procession and the field and the carnival committee has asked for our help again this year. We are looking particularly for someone who is able to be a link between the committee and stewarding volunteers and for those who might be able to steward on the day. Please talk to Michael or Nicola.

Healing on the Streets

Once a fortnight on Saturdays you will find a team of four Christians offering to talk and/or pray with people in the Ellendune shopping centre. We have been offering this service to our community for several years, but would love to have more names on our rota of people willing to join us in this valuable work. A friendly greeting and a willingness to have a conversation is all most people expect, so if you aren’t comfortable praying for someone, there will be others to do this. Our thanks go to Michael our Vicar for his commitment to HOTS over the years, and also to Teresa who will now be very busy with her training for the ministry, but without them our numbers are considerably reduced. Please prayerfully consider whether you could offer to be with us for a couple of hours on the occasional Saturday as part of our Christian outreach and have a chat with Barbara Abrey or Margaret Penfound to find out more.

Serving in Church

Would you like to become a server?? I know when dear Bill Ruck asked me quietly one day after the Church service if I would think of becoming a sever, it was my first step to gaining confidence to taking a more active role in Church services – I will always be grateful to Bill for giving me that gentle “push” !!! – we are looking for Volunteers to join the servers rota, if you feel God is giving you a “gentle push” to Volunteer, please speak to one of the servers or Michael about what is involved – training will be given!!!  Many thanks Cheryl

London Marathon 2017

Mike and Hannah Awre would like to thank you all for your support when we ran the London Marathon on 23rd April with over £2,600 being raised for Parkinson’s UK. It was a great day and one we will remember long after the aching muscles have been forgotten! The crowds were amazing and we did it together in 4 hours 27 minutes and 29 seconds!

Victoria Ford would like to thank everyone for their support during the London Marathon. I did it in 4 hours 12 minutes and 56 seconds it was hard!!

Wooden Tables

We have some 5’ and 6’ wooden tables available that are now surplus to requirements. If you would like one ,or two, or more, please speak to Nick Orman

Church Mission Society

Kate Quarrell, our CMS link in Kuluva, Uganda, has requested our prayers for:

  • the staff in the hospital where she works as a midwifery tutor, that God would inspire their practice and provide the resources they need to meet the needs of women and their babies
  • Kate and the other tutors, challenging old ways and encouraging the students to adopt better practices
  • the students, that they might be willing to learn and use modern information
  • praise God that people like Kate are willing to go in His name to benefit others.

Knitting for Seafarers

Thank you to all who have handed in hats, scarves, gloves and balaclavas. The Mission to Seafarers is grateful for donations throughout the year so please keep knitting and put your finished items in the box in church. There are a couple of balls of wool in it if you need some to get started and some suitable patterns, but you can use your own favourite patterns. Please call Janet Henderson on 525856 for more information.

This week please pray for:-

  • Church Mission Society
  • The Residents of Moore Close and Barbrook Road
  • Those suffering drought in South Sudan, Yemen, Nigeria and Somalia
  • Our Church Yard Committee and our Standing Committee as they meet this week.
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently, especially Clive Hooper. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
