 News from the PCC

The PCC met on Tuesday and welcomed its new members John Henderson, Lynn Hezlett and Marie McRobie.  Diane Phillips was also co-opted onto the PCC.  After election of officers and appointment of committees and groups, the PCC reviewed progress on its action plan.  The treasurer gave a report on the finances for the first three months of the year which showed that planned giving was significantly below what had been estimated from the pledges to the extent that even if we do not make donations to our charities or make transfer to fabric fund the income would still be about £2,500 less than expenditure. There is still time to make this up, however. Please pray for this situation and we would ask you to consider whether your giving is in line with your pledge and whether you can increase your giving further for this year.

Announcing our New Diocesan Bishop

We are delighted to let you know that The Very Revd Vivienne Faull, currently Dean of York, is to be the 57th Bishop of Bristol. We look forward to welcoming her to the Diocese in the autumn.

Families’ Gardening Morning

On Wednesday 30th May, we are running another gardening morning with Vision4Wroughton at Willowbrook Gardens. We have seeds to sow, and plants for children to pot up and take home. We would be glad of some more helpers. We’ll need to take tables across from the church hall, help with the gardening tasks and serve squash and biscuits. Could you help with any of those from about 10am? If so, please speak to Joan Orman. Thank you.

Holiday Club Meeting

There will be a planning meeting for Holiday Club on Tuesday 5th June at 7.30pm at 16 St Andrews Close. If you are available to help do come along or let Hannah Wrixon or Barbara know.

Hello and thank you

‘My first month at St Mark’s has been good and people have been very kind and welcoming… there is a lot of information to process and lots of names and places to try to remember. I’ve done my first school assembly and even been for dinner with the Bishop of Winchester (and a few other people…)! Thank you for your continued prayers and good wishes and for the gift of money recently received- I will spend it on something useful, and not just on gin! Nicola’

“Walk Through The Old Testament” Event –  Saturday 23rd June – 10am to 4.30pm

The Bible has a wonderfully rich, life-changing message, but it can be difficult finding your way through it. This event will help by bringing the Old Testament to life in a fun, engaging and interactive way.  It’s run by the ‘Walk Through The Bible’ UK Ministry (you can find out more at www.bible.org.uk) and we’re holding it in conjunction with the Stowe church – it will take place at our Parish Hall, Priors Hill. The cost is £14 for the day (11 – 16 year olds are free). Please do sign up for this unique event, experience the ‘Big Picture’ and be inspired and encouraged to dig deeper into God’s word.  A sign up sheet is on the church chest, or you can reserve a place via Janet, in the Parish Office.  Please speak to Helena Thomas for any further information.

Poppy Display

We are planning to make a large display of poppies in church to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 in November. So that we have enough poppies we would like you to get knitting and sewing poppies using any pattern you can find. If you need a pattern there are some on the church chest and a box for finished poppies on the pew by the choir vestry.

Supporting Safeguarding

The Bishop of Swindon, Rt Revd Lee Rayfield invites you to a service at Christ Church Swindon on Monday 18th June at 7.30 pm

Wroughton Choral Society Concert
Thanks to all those who came to the concert – we raised £230 for Médecins Sans Frontières.

The Bible Society

We live in a world where too many people don’t engage with the Bible. In some parts of the world, the Scriptures are difficult to access or are simply unavailable. In this country the Bible is readily available but has lost its significance for many. The Bible Society is working hard here at home, and in key areas across the world to change this. They take the Bible and find ways to translate and distribute it, advocating for it’s place in society and helping people to make sense of it. This work is driven by a conviction: when people engage with the Bible lives change – for good.

Please pray:

  • for those working on translations of the Bible, that they will be able to convey the true meaning of the scriptures
  • for the staff involved in the day to day running of headquarters
  • for the society’s outreach into communities, including Open the Book in primary schools
  • thank God that you have free access to his Word and can read it in your own language.

Knitting for Mission to Seafarers

A big thank you to our faithful knitters. I have sent off 27 hats, 1 pair of gloves, 1 balaclava and 8 scarves. There are several balls of wool in the box so if you have the time please get knitting. Patterns are also in the box.  Janet Henderson

Parish Office

The Office will be closed from Tuesday 29th May and will reopen on Monday 4th June.

Clergy Surgery

From now on Tuesday evening surgery will only be on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.

This week please also pray for:-

  • Bible Society
  • For those travelling during half term
  • For the family and friends of Isabel Henry and Alana Midwinter as there are baptised today
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially June Thomson and John Weait. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
