Trinity 2

A Trinity Prayer

I bind unto myself the name,
The strong name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation
salvation is of Christ the Lord.   Amen

 News from the PCC

The PCC met on 22nd May and welcomed its new members John Henderson, Lynn Hezlett and Marie McRobie.  Diane Phillips was also co-opted onto the PCC.  After election of officers and appointment of committees and groups, the PCC reviewed progress on its action plan.  The treasurer gave a report on the finances for the first three months of the year which showed that planned giving was significantly below what had been estimated from the pledges to the extent that even if we do not make donations to our charities or make transfer to fabric fund the income would still be about £2,500 less than expenditure. There is still time to make this up, however. Please pray for this situation and we would ask you to consider whether your giving is in line with your pledge and whether you can increase your giving further for this year.

Confirmation 21st June

Our candidates who will be confirmed at St John’s Haydon Wick at 7.30 on Thursday 21st June are, from 10 am congregation, Gareth (Gary) Kiamtia-Appleby, Matthew (Matty) Courtliff, Peter Ferguson and from Church at 4 Eloise (Ellie) Gough. Please pray for them all as they take this step in their Christian journey and it would be good if some of us could go along to support them on the day.

“Walk Through The Old Testament” Event –  Saturday 23rd June – 10am to 4.30pm

The Bible has a wonderfully rich, life-changing message, but it can be difficult finding your way through it. This event will help by bringing the Old Testament to life in a fun, engaging and interactive way.  It’s run by the ‘Walk Through The Bible’ UK Ministry (you can find out more at www.bible.org.uk) and we’re holding it in conjunction with the Stowe church – it will take place at our Parish Hall, Priors Hill. The cost is £14 for the day (11 – 16 year olds are free). Please do sign up for this unique event, experience the ‘Big Picture’ and be inspired and encouraged to dig deeper into God’s word.  A sign up sheet is on the church chest, or you can reserve a place via Janet, in the Parish Office.  Please speak to Helena Thomas for any further information.

Wroughton Carnival- Saturday 7th July
Last year we were able to support the carnival by providing stewards for the procession and the field and the carnival committee has asked for our help again this year.  Please talk to Karen Ferguson if you are able to help or ring Janet at the Parish Office. Tony Packham is the person to contact.

Poppy Display

We are planning to make a large display of poppies in church to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 in November. So that we have enough poppies we would like you to get knitting and sewing poppies using any pattern you can find. If you need a pattern there are some on the church chest and a box for finished poppies on the pew by the choir vestry.

Cream Teas – Thank You

I should just like to say on behalf of Churches Together in Wroughton what a wonderful afternoon we had.  Thank you so much to everyone who supported the event, the many volunteers who worked so hard, those who made scones and everyone who came.  We made £860 for the hospice, a really super result,

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD

 The Bible Society

We live in a world where too many people don’t engage with the Bible. In some parts of the world, the Scriptures are difficult to access or are simply unavailable. In this country the Bible is readily available but has lost its significance for many. The Bible Society is working hard here at home, and in key areas across the world to change this. They take the Bible and find ways to translate and distribute it, advocating for it’s place in society and helping people to make sense of it. This work is driven by a conviction: when people engage with the Bible lives change – for good.

Please pray:

  • for those working on translations of the Bible, that they will be able to convey the true meaning of the scriptures
  • for the staff involved in the day to day running of headquarters
  • for the society’s outreach into communities, including Open the Book in primary schools
  • thank God that you have free access to his Word and can read it in your own language.

Knitting for Mission to Seafarers

A big thank you to our faithful knitters. I have sent off 27 hats, 1 pair of gloves, 1 balaclava and 8 scarves. There are several balls of wool in the box so if you have the time please get knitting. Patterns are also in the box.  Janet Henderson

This week please also pray for:-

  • Bible Society
  • Wichelstowe Planning Group
  • Healing on the Streets
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Annie Davies, June Thomson and John Weait. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
