Patronal Festival

A Prayer for our Patronal Festival

Lord God,
John proclaimed your Son as the Lamb of God
and John’s disciples followed Jesus:
help us to follow him also,
and by our words and deeds
to bring our families and friends closer to you.
for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.                                                  Church of England

Prayer for Phill and family

Our new vicar, Phill Harrison, and his family will be moving to Wroughton over the summer. At present the children, Aidan and Ciara, do not have school places in the area for the new term in September. Please pray that this will soon be satisfactorily resolved, and the family be able to settle happily in our community.

Welcome to our Confirmation Candidates

Welcome to Gareth (Gary) Kiamtia-Appleby, Matthew (Matty) Courtliff, Peter Ferguson and Eloise (Ellie) Gough who were confirmed this week.  Please pray for them all as their Christian journey continues.

“Walk Through The Old Testament” Event –  Saturday 23rd June – 10am to 4.30pm

The Bible has a wonderfully rich, life-changing message, but it can be difficult finding your way through it. This event will help by bringing the Old Testament to life in a fun, engaging and interactive way.  It’s run by the ‘Walk Through The Bible’ UK Ministry (you can find out more at www.bible.org.uk) and we’re holding it in conjunction with the Stowe church – it will take place at our Parish Hall, Priors Hill. The cost is £14 for the day (11 – 16 year olds are free). Experience the ‘Big Picture’ and be inspired and encouraged to dig deeper into God’s word.

 Teresa Townsend’s Ordination

Teresa Townsend will be ordained a Deacon at Bristol Cathedral on Saturday June 30th. We have booked a coach which will leave Wroughton (Health Centre car park) at 13.45pm, leaving Bristol approx 6pm. Cost will be £12 which will include a tip for the driver. Names to Jean Ford or Ross Fralley please.

Wroughton Carnival- Saturday 7th July
Last year we were able to support the carnival by providing stewards for the procession and the field and the carnival committee has asked for our help again this year.  Please talk to Karen Ferguson if you are able to help or ring Janet at the Parish Office or contact Tony Packham.

 Poppy Display

We are planning to make a large display of poppies in church to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 in November. So that we have enough poppies we would like you to get knitting and sewing poppies using any pattern you can find. If you need a pattern there are some on the church chest and a box for finished poppies on the pew by the choir vestry.

Notices by email

If you have suddenly stopped receiving notices for no reason and would like to continue to receive them again, please email office@wroughton.com.

If you have not previously received the notices by email and  would like to, please contact Janet by email office@wroughton.com

 The Bible Society

We live in a world where too many people don’t engage with the Bible. In some parts of the world, the Scriptures are difficult to access or are simply unavailable. In this country the Bible is readily available but has lost its significance for many. The Bible Society is working hard here at home, and in key areas across the world to change this. They take the Bible and find ways to translate and distribute it, advocating for it’s place in society and helping people to make sense of it. This work is driven by a conviction: when people engage with the Bible lives change – for good.

Please pray:

  • for those working on translations of the Bible, that they will be able to convey the true meaning of the scriptures
  • for the staff involved in the day to day running of headquarters
  • for the society’s outreach into communities, including Open the Book in primary schools
  • thank God that you have free access to his Word and can read it in your own language.

Knitting for Mission to Seafarers

A big thank you to our faithful knitters. I have sent off 27 hats, 1 pair of gloves, 1 balaclava and 8 scarves. There are several balls of wool in the box so if you have the time please get knitting. Patterns are also in the box.  Janet Henderson
