Trinity 7

A prayer for family life

God of compassion,
whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary,
shared the life of a home in Nazareth,
and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself:
strengthen us in our daily living
that in joy and in sorrow
we may know the power of your presence
to bind together and to heal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Prayer for Phill and family

Our new vicar, Phill Harrison, and his family will be moving to Wroughton over the summer. At present the children, Aidan and Ciara, do not have school places in the area for the new term in September. Please pray that this will soon be satisfactorily resolved, and the family be able to settle happily in our community.

Phill’s licensing – your help needed

After the service we are intending to serve light refreshments. We need help to pass food/drinks to our guests. Further information from our Churchwardens or Jean Ford, Ross Fralley and Janet Henderson.  Thank you for your support for this special occasion.

Car Parking for Phill’s Licensing

As you will expect, a large number of people will be coming to this service and therefore car parking space in the church car park  and Legge House will be at a premium. If you are coming to the service and need a Disabled sticker to ensure a space is reserved for you, please speak to either Ross Fralley, Helena Thomas or Mike Awre. We are very grateful to Russell Cleverley for the use of his field adjoining Legge House as an Overflow Car Park so there will be enough space for everyone.

Carnival Thanks

A big thanks to all who helped in any way at the carnival last week, those who helped on our stall on the Weir Field and those who acted as stewards.

It is always good to support the community and have fun at the same time.

Teambuilders Holiday Club 13th –17th August

Planning is well under way for this year’s Holiday Club week which will run from 9 am to 12 noon in the Church Hall. If you know anyone with children aged  5 –11 yrs. tell them about Teambuilders and encourage them to get a booking form from the parish office. Next planning meeting is at 7.30 on Wednesday 18th July, please pray for the leaders and their planning.

Filling Station sandwiches

Our church will be supplying the sandwiches and other foodstuffs for the Filling Station – providing food for the homeless in Swindon – on Thursday, 19th July. If you are able to provide something, please put your name on the sign-up sheet on the church chest, and take a reminder slip. Items should be brought to 11 St John Road by 5.00 pm on 19th.

Poppy Display

We are planning to make a large display of poppies in church to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 in November. So that we have enough poppies we would like you to get knitting and sewing poppies using any pattern you can find. If you need a pattern there are some on the church chest and a box for finished poppies on the pew by the choir vestry.

Notices by email

If you have suddenly stopped receiving notices for no reason and would like to continue to receive them again, please email office@wroughton.com.

If you have not previously received the notices by email and  would like to, please contact Janet by email office@wroughton.com

Nativity Play – Old Town

Anna Friend who directed our Passion Play two years ago is directing a Nativity play in conjunction with Christ Church to be performed around the streets of Old Town on December 9th. It promises to be on the scale of the Passion play. Anna is looking for experienced actors for principal roles but also needs lots of people to take part in explaining the story to the crowds as per the Passion play. Experience not necessary. Auditions are on July 10th at Christ Church. If you want to come along please contact Anna on thejourneyswindon@gmail.com.

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD

The Bible Society

We live in a world where too many people don’t engage with the Bible. In some parts of the world, the Scriptures are difficult to access or are simply unavailable. In this country the Bible is readily available but has lost its significance for many. The Bible Society is working hard here at home, and in key areas across the world to change this. They take the Bible and find ways to translate and distribute it, advocating for its place in society and helping people to make sense of it. This work is driven by a conviction: when people engage with the Bible lives change – for good.

Please pray:

  • for those working on translations of the Bible, that they will be able to convey the true meaning of the scriptures
  • for the staff involved in the day to day running of headquarters
  • for the society’s outreach into communities, including Open the Book in primary schools
  • thank God that you have free access to His Word and can read it in your own language.

Helping Honduras Project Trust

Some of you may remember Catherine Young who has been a member of our 10am congregation. She has been selected by the charity Project Trust to spend a year voluntary teaching in Honduras. However she needs to raise £6200 by August to make this possible. If you would like to help her raise this money you can fund her directly through uk.virginmoneygiving.com/CatherineYoung Further details and other ways to send a donation are on the Mission Matters notice board in the baptistry to the left of the main door, or speak to Carolyn Kirk or Marion Colton.

Knitting for Mission to Seafarers

A big thank you to our faithful knitters. I have sent off 27 hats, 1 pair of gloves, 1 balaclava and 8 scarves. There are several balls of wool in the box so if you have the time please get knitting. Patterns are also in the box.  Janet Henderson

This week please also pray for:-

  • Bible Society
  • Our CMS Mission Partners Phil & Sylvie Good
  • The family of Stuart & Grace who will be married on Saturday in Church.
  • Phill, Karen, Aidan and Ciara as Phill becomes our new Vicar.
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Roland Commons and Joan Jeffrey. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
