Update from Phill Harrison:
I’m delighted to be able to report that both Aidan and Ciara now have school places at The Ridgeway for September. A heart felt thank you to everyone who has prayed and supported us in practical ways as we have navigated the process. We believe in a God who listens to and answers prayer. For Karen and I this has been a very tangible exercise in learning to trust God when we have reached the limits of our human endeavours.
We are now on our family holiday and will be moving all of the furniture left behind in Corsham when we come back. I return to work on 20th August.

Commemorate 100 years of the end of World War 1
To commemorate 100 years of the end of the First World War, there is a nationwide installation to the fallen called “there but not there”, of transparent seated military figures. Organisations such as Churches can purchase figures to install in their Churches – the aim of the project is to “commemorate, educate and heal” and money raised will go towards various Veteran charities and the The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation – more information can be found at http://www.therebutnotthere.org.uk/there-but-not-there/. We would like to purchase a transparent figure for our Church – the cost is £42.00. If you would like to contribute towards the cost of a figure, please give your donation to Cheryl Hawkins
Poppy Display
We are planning to make a large display of poppies in church to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 in November. So that we have enough poppies we would like you to get knitting and sewing poppies using any pattern you can find. (there are many patterns on the internet particularly on pinterest) If you need a pattern there are some on the church chest and a box for finished poppies on the pew by the choir vestry. Please get them to us by October.
Filling Station
The Filling Station goes into Swindon to provide food for the homeless. The food given to them needs to be things they can eat out of the tin. We particularly need tinned fruit, soup and meat. Thank you for your help.
Ride & Stride 2018
‘This year’s Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride for Churches event takes place on Saturday 8th September. The event raises funds for the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, a charity involved in giving grants for the maintenance of our historic places of worship in the County. The event itself is one which our Parish has supported for many years in the past.
The event takes place in a time window between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm on the Saturday and participants visit as many of the local participating Wiltshire Churches as they choose, either by cycling, walking or even on horseback! The event is sponsored, with the participant typically raising more, with the more Churches visited. The participating churches provide a wonderful range of rural and urban churches, in many architectural styles and fashions to admire.

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD
The Bible Society
We live in a world where too many people don’t engage with the Bible. In some parts of the world, the Scriptures are difficult to access or are simply unavailable. In this country the Bible is readily available but has lost its significance for many. The Bible Society is working hard here at home, and in key areas across the world to change this. They take the Bible and find ways to translate and distribute it, advocating for its place in society and helping people to make sense of it. This work is driven by a conviction: when people engage with the Bible lives change – for good.
Please pray:
- for those working on translations of the Bible, that they will be able to convey the true meaning of the scriptures
- for the staff involved in the day to day running of headquarters
- for the society’s outreach into communities, including Open the Book in primary schools
- thank God that you have free access to His Word and can read it in your own language.
Knitting for Mission to Seafarers
A big thank you to our faithful knitters. I have sent off 27 hats, 1 pair of gloves, 1 balaclava and 8 scarves. There are several balls of wool in the box so if you have the time please get knitting. Patterns are also in the box. Janet Henderson
