Car Park Duty for Wedding and Funerals

The Deanery CE Academy, Wichelstowe
If you’ve driven past Waitrose in Wichelstowe recently you will have seen that the new secondary school building is becoming less purple, as the builders apply the final render to the outside. This is the first new Church of England secondary school to be built in Bristol Diocese since 1571! It represents a unique opportunity to build a school with a distinctive Christian ethos, which will bless not just Wichelstowe, but the whole of Swindon. The building is in our parish and we have been invited to get involved with this fantastic project. Please pray for the Principal, Linda Culling, and all of the team as the building gets ready to receive students in September 2019. Please also have a look at the new display boards in the North Aisle.
Stewardship Letters
If you did not take a Stewardship Letter last week please could you take one from the back of Church. There is either one addressed to you or take a blank one. A few of the letters contained inaccurate information. If yours was one of those letters then there is another correcting letter for you to collect. Apologies for this confusion.
Filling Station / Harvest
The Filling Station goes into Swindon to provide food for the homeless. The food given to them needs to be things they can eat out of the tin. We particularly need tinned fruit, soup and meat. We need donations all year round and as usual we will be giving our harvest gifts to the Filling Station this year, please bring your harvest gifts on Sunday 7th October.
Children’s Society Boxes
If you have a Children’s Society collection box that needs emptying please give it to me at church or call me on 07596 001716 to arrange a time for me to collect it. I would like to receive all boxes by 5th October. Many thanks, Carolyn Kirk
Future of 115 Club
Our church has run a successful youth club in the village since 1991 – 27 years! It encourages team spirit, fellowship and fun; ; and promotes a better understanding of christianity, our Church and its role in the community. Since 2004 the members have sponsored, and fundraised for children & communities in Albania, through World Vision We currently have a full club of 28 members and a waiting list – BUT are desperately short of leaders and may have to close in 2019 if we can’t find new leaders to organise the running of the club. If you are able to help, or know of someone who may be interested please speak to Ross Fralley or Helena Thomas (07909 882150). Please pray that new leaders will come forward and that the club will be able to continue.
Thank you “there but not there”
Thank you for the donations received towards the purchase of the military figure for the “there but not there” nationwide installation to commemorate the end of the 1st Word War. The figure has been purchased and delivered and we will be deciding where to install it within the Church. Many thanks Cheryl
Poppy Display
We are making a large display of poppies in church to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 in November. We have already received a lot of poppies and the display is almost complete. If you still have poppies please bring them to church asap and put in the box for finished poppies on the pew by the choir vestry. Thanks to all the knitters and sewers who have done such a great job so far.

Traidcraft
I have just had a very sad email from Traidcraft. Trade has been poor recently and they are at present in consultation with the possibility of ceasing trading by the end of the year. They will continue to run Traidcraft Exchange which works with farmers and local people to give them a fair deal
Shine Walk
The Shine Walk was held very successfully on Saturday, and Mike was very grateful for your support again this year. I will be in church on Sunday 7th, if anyone has donations.

Tearfund
A few years ago, if you had a mango tree in Chagunda village, Malawi, you would guard it carefully. Mangoes weren’t for sharing! The climate had changed and people’s crops were failing. Everyone held onto the little food they could grow. But then the village was thrown a lifeline. Tearfund’s partners in the region, AG Care, trained them in some amazing farming techniques. It showed them how to grow nearly 10 times as much food from their land. Now the people of Chagunda have got more than enough food. They can sell their spare food and pay for precious things like education. As for the mangoes… now the local children are free to climb the trees and help themselves whenever they want.
Please pray:
- for Tearfund’s work in villages like Chagunda, making a real difference in people’s lives
- that people will see the love of God in action in Tearfund’s work
- for governments, banks and industry to make a real effort to address climate change
- that we will be willing to do what we can to reduce our carbon footprint.
Knitting for Mission to Seafarers
During the last three months I have been able to send off three large boxes of knitted hats, scarves and gloves to Mission to Seafarers. These are distributed to those working on ships in adverse weather conditions who do not own warm clothing. Thank you to everyone who keeps knitting and to those who provide wool. If you would like to get started there are patterns and wool in the boxes by the choir vestry. For further information please contact Janet Henderson 525856.
