Stewardship 2

Prayer for Stewardship

Loving Father

you have made us your people,

richly provided us with good gifts

and called us to live for you;

may gratitude be in our hearts;

may generosity be in our hands;

may justice and righteousness guide

our feet and may the life of your kingdom

and the joy of heaven be found among us.

Amen

Our Vision

This year we will spend around 30k on maintenance work on our church building and refresh our plans for repairing and modernising the church hall, making it better for community use and a more visible Christian presence in the heart of the village. We will also continue to build our partnership with the new Deanery Church of England secondary school in our parish and to develop and grow our mission in Wichelstowe. As well as this, we want to continue to serve the community of Wroughton, to help people to encounter God and to be aware of his love and care for them. We are currently £241 per week short of the money that we need. If everyone were able to give an extra £2.20 per week then we would be secure financially and able to do all of that we plan to do in the next 12 months.

Further information about our financial position is being sent to everyone on the electoral roll. Please look out for yours and take time to think and pray about your response.

The Bible Course

We’re continuing to explore the bible the BIG story of God’s salvation plan for the world. Three groups are meeting:

Monday 10am at 11 St John Road

Wednesday 7:30pm at 12 Artis Ave

Thursday 2pm at The Vicarage
Don’t forget to do your daily bible readings!

IMPORTANT! ‘Praying in’ the Deanery School.

On Saturday July 20th the Deanery School are hosting a prayer day for members of the public, involving a tour of the school, a Prayer Walk and lunch! The day will start at 9:15 with a tour and finish at 1:30. This is our opportunity to show we care, to ask God to bless the new building and everyone who uses it and, of course, to satisfy our curiosity.

You do need to register, so please Google ‘prayer day for the Deanery CE Academy’ and follow the link in the first search result to ‘eventbrite’ where you can sign-up.  See you there!

Spring Harvest 2020

We’re hoping that as many people as possible will join us at Spring Harvest next year (Minehead week 2: 13th to 17th April 2020). The theme for 2020 is ‘the Acts church today’. There are brochures at the back of church and also some available from Keith Bassett and Phill Harrison. There is a range of accommodation to suit various tastes and budgets and you can either go self-catering or fully catered. Because this is the first year that we’ve really promoted this as a church, it will be easier if people can book individually, rather than organising a group booking. Please book your own accommodation and be aware that booking is now open. Certain types of accommodation tend to go very quickly (single rooms in particular).

Martina’s Ration Challenge – update

Thank you to all that have kindly donated money towards the Ration Challenge.  I have raised £378.44.  Many thanks Martina

Date for your diary!

This autumn we will be having a ‘Parish Weekend at home’. Please keep the weekend of 12th and 13th October free. We have a guest speaker booked and hope to include plenty of opportunities for fellowship and laughter as well as growing in our relationship with God.

Kay Bond’s Funeral

Kay’s funeral will be in Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday 10th July.  All are welcome and there is no dress code. Family flowers only please. There will be a reception afterwards at Legge House.

Thank you

Thank you to all who shopped in Waitrose and donated their tokens to Cancer Ninjas, they have received £400. Thank you from Mike Horlock

Wroughton Silver Band

Wroughton Silver Band presents ‘A Night at the Movies’ on Saturday 13th July, 7.30pm at Wroughton Parish Church.

A retiring collection in aid of Prospect Hospice and Parkinsons UK.

Holiday Club

Thank you for all your donations so far. I thinks we now have enough corner yogurt pots and nearly enough jars, but we will also need cardboard boxes for craft, any size cereal boxes would be fine.

Ride and Stride

‘This year’s Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride for Churches event takes place on Saturday 14th September. The event raises funds for the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, a charity involved in giving grants for the maintenance of our historic places of worship in the County.

The event takes place between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm on the Saturday and participants visit as many of the local participating Wiltshire Churches as they choose, either by cycling, walking or even on horseback! The event is sponsored, with the participant typically raising more, with the more Churches visited. The participating churches provide a wonderful range of rural and urban churches, in many architectural styles and fashions to admire. This year the event has a special launch by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, taking place at St Bartholomew’s Church, Corsham.

If you would like to take part, please contact your parish organiser for the event, Mike Mason. Mike can be contacted via the office email: office@wroughton.com or in person. Mike can provide further details and a sponsorship form – there is also a JustGiving option available.’

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD

Swindon Youth for Christ

For some years, SYFC has been developing “LUSH”, a course on sex and relationships which is used as part of schools’ personal, social and health education curriculum. Recently, in addition to the tried and tested material, they have added a new session looking at the effects of pornography. The programme recognises that young people need safe spaces to talk about these important life issues.

Please pray that more schools will invite SYFC to provide these courses for them, and that young people will be transformed for the better by this work.

Legge House Monthly Prayer Point

We have had several cancellations which has knocked things a little. So please pray that Legge will be well used for the rest of the year and guests receive God’s blessing while here.

This week please also pray for:-

  • Swindon Youth for Christ
  • For the staff and patients at the Prospect Hospice
  • For those who are organising this year’s Holiday Club
  • Members of our Buildings Committee who meet this week
  • For those who feel lonely, sad and depressed
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Jane Dudley, Kay Bond and Edna Cripps. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
