Trinity 11

A prayer for God’s guidance

Almighty Lord and everlasting God,
we ask you to direct, sanctify and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of your laws and the works of your commandments;
that through your most mighty protection,
both here and ever,
we may be preserved in body and soul;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Litter Pick

The Church at 4 congregation are planning a litter pick round the village on Saturday 7th September. We’ll be meeting at the church hall at 2.30pm, and we’d be glad if anyone else would like to join us.

First day of term at the new Deanery CE School

To celebrate the arrival of the first students to the new school, the governors, local churches and businesses are planning a welcoming event on the morning of the opening day.  At 8:00am on Wednesday 4th September Children and parents will be invited to gather inside Hall and Woodhouse for some simple refreshments (donations to the Air Ambulance) and an opportunity to mingle with the welcome team.  From 8:20am students and parents will gather on the Plaza. Students will then be ‘waved’ into school by a corridor of people waving brightly coloured flags.

Question: are you available at 8am on 4th September? Can you smile? Can you manage to wave a flag?

It would be really good to get as many people as possible together to show our support for the new school community and the important place that it has in our parish. Please let Janet in the office know if you can make it (01793 812050).  Many thanks Phill

Parish weekend @ home 12th and 13th October – When you pray…

We will be staying at home for our parish weekend this year, using the church hall and church as our venues for getting together. This will keep costs down and hopefully enable as many people to join in as possible. There will be a special programme of sessions and activities on Saturday 12th, with the themes from Saturday carrying on into our regular Sunday services on October 13th.

We will be thinking about some of the things that Jesus said about prayer. Does he contradict himself when he tells people to pray on their own and in secret (Matt 6:6) and then later tells them to agree together in prayer (Matt 18:19)? Canon Roger Morgan will be our guest speaker for the weekend. Roger is the director of the Mathetes Trust, an organisation that promotes Christian discipleship. We hope that you will find the sessions engaging and varied, with plenty of opportunities for us to get to know one another better.

Booking forms will be available in early September (for catering purposes).

Celebrating all God’s gifts!

On the evening of Saturday 12th October we will be holding our harvest supper. As well as celebrating God’s gift of a good harvest, we will also be celebrating one-another by showcasing our talents… So, if you might be able to recite a poem, sing a song, perform a sketch, tell a story (or a joke?) then get your thinking cap on and get rehearsing. This is part of our parish weekend, however we would love you to come and join us in the evening, even if you can’t manage the rest of the day on Saturday.

The Filling Station

It will be the turn of our church to provide sandwiches etc. for the Filling Station on Thursday, 5th September. If you are willing to donate a loaf of sandwiches or another food item, please add your name to the list on the church chest and take a reminder card. Please note that this time the items need to be taken to 11 Blenheim Road, the home of Alan and Kathy Gregory.

Come and Sing Vivaldi’s Gloria

Wroughton Choral Society are hosting a Come and Sing Vivaldi’s Gloria on Saturday 28th September in Wroughton Parish Church from 11am to 5pm.

Ride and Stride

‘This year’s Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride for Churches event takes place on Saturday 14th September. The event raises funds for the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, a charity involved in giving grants for the maintenance of our historic places of worship in the County.  The event takes place between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm on the Saturday and participants visit as many of the local participating Wiltshire Churches as they choose, either by cycling, walking or even on horseback!  If you would like to take part, please contact your parish organiser for the event, Mike Mason. Mike can be contacted via the office email: office@wroughton.com or in person. Mike can provide further details and a sponsorship form – there is also a JustGiving option available.’

Wroughton Churches Together

Is anyone able and willing to set up and assist run a Facebook page (or something similar) to help Wroughton Churches Together publicise their events? They don’t occur all that frequently. Please contact me via the Parish Office email, or in Church. many thanks, Ann Rainey.

The ‘Web of Life’

Tuesday 3rd September, St Peter’s Hall, Penhill Drive, Swindon at 7.30pm – 9pm

Do people ’stand separate’ in God’s creation? Or does

how we live impact not only on the environment, but

on other people and communities across the globe?

This evening will explore, through short interactive

workshops, some of what it means for us to be part of

the ‘Web of Life’.

Church library

I have put two books in church library, they are by Roy Godwin of Ffald-y-Brenin, a Christian retreat in Pembrokeshire. Those who attended  the first Bless Wroughton & Wichelstowe prayer meeting will have been given a prayer card with prayers for our community based on Ffald-y-Brenin. The first book, The Grace Outpouring is how Roy and his wife Daphne started the retreat and the follow up book The Way of Blessing shares their stories of how God has truly blessed them and their community and spread throughout the world. They are easy to read and encourages us all how to pray blessings on people and communities. Phill has some prayer cards based on Ffald-y-Brenin if any one wants one. Please borrow the books and be encouraged by them.   Carolyn Perry

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD

Phil and Sylvie Good – our CMS mission partners

It was wonderful to be able to welcome Sylvie in church on 28th July during her short break from Beirut in Lebanon and to hear about their work at The Life Center, amongst children and refugees. Please continue to pray for Phil and Sylvie. We have been asked to pray:

  • That a new strategic funding partner can be found to support the Life Center’s educational work
  • That the mothers attending The Center will learn how to play more effectively with their children
  • That many more of the refugees will come to know and love Jesus.

This week please also pray for:-

  • Phil and Sylvie Good our Church Mission Society link partners.
  • For the family & friends of Reynold & Kirsty as they marry in Church on Saturday
  • For Ray & Joan Gorringe and their family as they renewal their marriage vows on Saturday
  • For the students & staff at the new CE Deanery School as they open on Wednesday
  • For all those returning to school this week
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Nigel Hillier. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
