Trinity 12

A prayer for God’s guidance
Almighty Lord and everlasting God,
we ask you to direct, sanctify and govern both our hearts and bodies in the ways of your laws and the works of your commandments;
that through your most mighty protection,
both here and ever,
we may be preserved in body and soul;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.

The Deanery CE Secondary School

Please continue to pray for the staff and students of the new Deanery CE Secondary School in Wichelstowe as they settle into the school’s first term ever. Please pray that a supportive and safe culture is quickly established and that firm friendships are made among staff and pupils alike.

As part of our commitment to this new Church of England school in our parish we will be holding a short service of Morning Prayer in the school chapel every Monday at 9am during term time. Everyone is welcome to join us.

Pray and Bless Wroughton and Wichelstowe

After taking a break over the summer, Pray and Bless will be meeting again on 17th September and 7:30 in the Church Hall. Please join us as we seek to serve our community by blessing it with prayer, asking God to prosper and touch the lives of friends and neighbours.

Parish weekend @ home 12th and 13th October – When you pray…

We will be staying at home for our parish weekend this year, using the church hall and church as our venues for getting together. This will keep costs down and hopefully enable as many people to join in as possible. There will be a special programme of sessions and activities on Saturday 12th, with the themes from Saturday carrying on into our regular Sunday services on October 13th.

We will be thinking about some of the things that Jesus said about prayer. Does he contradict himself when he tells people to pray on their own and in secret (Matt 6:6) and then later tells them to agree together in prayer (Matt 18:19)? Canon Roger Morgan will be our guest speaker for the weekend. Roger is the director of the Mathetes Trust, an organisation that promotes Christian discipleship. We hope that you will find the sessions engaging and varied, with plenty of opportunities for us to get to know one another better.

Booking forms will be available in early September (for catering purposes).

Celebrating all God’s gifts!

On the evening of Saturday 12th October we will be holding our harvest supper. As well as celebrating God’s gift of a good harvest, we will also be celebrating one-another by showcasing our talents… So, if you might be able to recite a poem, sing a song, perform a sketch, tell a story (or a joke?) then get your thinking cap on and get rehearsing. This is part of our parish weekend, however we would love you to come and join us in the evening, even if you can’t manage the rest of the day on Saturday.

Thank You

I would like to thank everyone who sent me get well messages and cards while I have been unwell. Special thanks to everyone who has done the jobs that I was unable to do on Sundays and at Holiday Club.  Barbara Abrey

Is anyone able and willing to set up and assist run a Facebook page (or something similar) to help Wroughton Churches Together publicise their events? They don’t occur all that frequently. Please contact me via the Parish Office email, or in Church. many thanks, Ann Rainey.

Church library

I have put two books in church library, they are by Roy Godwin of Ffald-y-Brenin, a Christian retreat in Pembrokeshire. Those who attended  the first Bless Wroughton & Wichelstowe prayer meeting will have been given a prayer card with prayers for our community based on Ffald-y-Brenin. The first book, The Grace Outpouring is how Roy and his wife Daphne started the retreat and the follow up book The Way of Blessing shares their stories of how God has truly blessed them and their community and spread throughout the world. They are easy to read and encourages us all how to pray blessings on people and communities. Phill has some prayer cards based on Ffald-y-Brenin if any one wants one. Please borrow the books and be encouraged by them.   Carolyn Perry

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD

Phil and Sylvie Good – our CMS mission partners

It was wonderful to be able to welcome Sylvie in church on 28th July during her short break from Beirut in Lebanon and to hear about their work at The Life Center, amongst children and refugees. Please continue to pray for Phil and Sylvie. We have been asked to pray:

  • That a new strategic funding partner can be found to support the Life Center’s educational work
  • That the mothers attending The Center will learn how to play more effectively with their children
  • That many more of the refugees will come to know and love Jesus.

This week please also pray for:-

  • Phil and Sylvie Good our Church Mission Society link partners.
  • Our Ministry Team and Standing Committee who meet this week
  • For the family and friends of Scarlett Oliver who is Christened in Church next Sunday
  • Those taking place in this weeks ‘Ride & Stride’.
  • Our Bible Study Groups
  • All those affected by Hurricane Dorian
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Ralph Couldridge. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
