Trinity 10

Hello All

If my maths are correct this will be the 22nd Sunday that we have not been worshipping together in the Church building.

I am sure that it has been very different for each of us. Some will have enjoyed the change from normal, some will have hardly noticed the difference and for others it will have been a very difficult experience, and for most it will have been a strange mixture of all these things.

As Christians we should all regularly spend time reflecting on our own spiritual journey.  I wonder how many of you have grown closer to God over these weeks and how many feel a bit lost and abandoned.

I hope that our weekly telephone service has helped everyone to feel connected to God and each other and that you have learned to strengthen your own relationship with God in your private prayer life.   Love and blessings, Barbara

 10am service by telephone

Our Sunday morning service is an audio meeting that people can dial into using just their telephones – no computers involved! Follow these instructions to join:

  • To join the Sunday service first dial this number: 03300 945 940.
  • When prompted, enter the room number, followed by # on your telephone keypad: 60527473 #
  • Finally, enter the guest PIN: 2656 #
  • You may have to listen to some announcements, but you will then be automatically joined to the conference call. Join in with the responses in the liturgy as you would normally.

Calls to ‘03’ numbers are charged at the standard national rate and are included in your ‘free minutes’ if you have a call-plan.

Return to Worship in the Church Building

As the internal building work should be completed early next week, we hope to return to worshipping in the church next Sunday, 23rd August.  This would be a morning Parish Communion service, albeit different in some ways to our ‘normal’ services before lockdown……

As we will be restricted on numbers attending due to social distancing, please let Janet in the office know by Friday 21st August if you intend to come (tel: 01793  812050; or email: office@wroughton.com).  We will confirm arrangements in next week’s newsletter, and there will be an update on our Facebook page.

Please note that we intend to continue with a 10am telephone service for the time being – this will still be available for those who would prefer to dial in.

Traidcraft

The Traidcraft website has some lovely face masks that are available at a discount – £3.20 instead of £4.00 – if ordered through Sally Parker.  If you’re missing the Traidcraft goods that are normally on sale after church, then do look at their website:  www.traidcraftshop.co.uk   Orders for any items can be sent to Sally by email:  sally2002@live.co.uk, and the discount she receives will be passed on to you.

Update on Ordination Date

Just to let you know I have received a date for Ordination of Sunday 11th October at 3.30pm. At the moment we do not have any other details about the service. Once I have any further details I will of course let you know. Thank you all for your ongoing prayers – they are very much appreciated. I am beginning to feel settled and meeting people which is great and look forward to finally finishing my secular employment on the 20th August. I preach for the first time on the 30th August! You all remain in my prayers and I look forward to the time I can return to see you all. With Every Blessing, Cheryl

Update from Beirut

Phil and Sylvie Good have sent this message following the explosion in the city on Tuesday:

Beirut today is a frantic place of activity as people clear up the broken glass. There is a lot of emotion in the air as you can imagine.  We have been into our flat which is unharmed, and apart from a few cuts noone was hurt that we know.  The cause is unclear but neither Hezbollah or Israel are saying anything much which is good. There was a large quatity of explosive ammonium nitrate in the port like 2700 tonnes which has been unsafely stored since 2013, this is what exploded. iT could be a case of governmental negligence a accident waiting to happen.

Anyway there is a lot of need for rebuilding and RCB have a fundraiser at https://gf.me/u/ymr6bw and pray that this will really cause the churches to work and pray together the outcome could be a big gain in unity amongst believers.

Posting Giving Envelopes in the Church Hall
If you are posting envelopes in the church hall letterbox during the day and find the door open, please place your envelopes in the red Parish Office letterbox inside the porch on the right. This is emptied regularly.

Monday morning Bible Study

We have been continuing our bibles studies by phone conference calls during the lockdown, but will now break for the Summer and will resume in September, hopefully face to face by then. We have enjoyed following the sermon series through Acts and Philippians, looking at the set readings in more depth.

Floodlighting

The Church was floodlit on Tuesday 11th August by Andrew Bond for Stella Tyers (10th anniversary) Pioneer Missioner, Bestwood Churches, Nottingham.  Also her parents, Kay Bond and Philip Bond.

Funerals

Please remember the friends and family of the late Freda Patterson and Catherine Hoyland

Church building work update

The plaster removal work is well advanced and the contractors are confident that they will finish the work by next Tuesday (18th August). As mentioned previously, once all of the plaster has been removed we will need to allow the walls to dry out for 12 months before they can be re-plastered – we will therefore have areas of bare stone wall to look at for quite some time!
