30th August 2020

Trinity 12

Dear All,

Last Sunday we held our first service in the church building since the start of lockdown in March. This was also a joint service with our telephone congregation, so we had 38+ people on the telephone joined by 37 people in the building. It was wonderful to be able to see some faces again (albeit covered ones!) whilst at the same time staying in touch with those who for various reasons couldn’t join us in person. There were a few wrinkles but I hope that everyone, whether in the building or on the phone, felt that they were able to participate in our worship. We will keep worshipping in this combined way at 10am on Sunday for now. Meanwhile, our short Facebook offering at 12:00 continues, alongside Church at 4 on Zoom (at 4 o’clock…).

God bless, Phill

The 10am telephone service will still take place, so please do dial in as usual – you will actively be taking part in the church service, albeit remotely- the technology has been tested …. and we pray that it behaves on Sunday!

  • To join the Sunday service first dial this number: 03300 945 940.
  • When prompted, enter the room number, followed by # on your telephone keypad: 60527473 #
  • Finally, enter the guest PIN: 2656 #
  • You may have to listen to some announcements, but you will then be automatically joined to the conference call. Join in with the responses in the liturgy as you would normally.

Calls to ‘03’ numbers are charged at the standard national rate and are included in your ‘free minutes’ if you have a call-plan.

‘Our grateful thanks’ – Bishop Viv and Archdeacon Christopher have sent an expression of their gratitude to all at the Parish of Wroughton and Wichelstowe for our Parish Share gift of £95,000 to the Diocese of Bristol in 2019 and their certificate will be on display in church shortly. They say ‘Parish Share is vital: it is funding ministry both in your parish and across the Diocese, and pays for training the ministers of the future. That’s why last year we asked parishes to make Parish Share a priority and to give the ‘first-fruits’ of their income. Only this makes ministry possible and we thank you for your generous response. We trust in God for his provision in the future: And God is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause. 2 Corinthians 9:8.

Traidcraft

The Traidcraft website has some lovely face masks that are available at a discount – £3.20 instead of £4.00 – if ordered through Sally Parker.  If you’re missing the Traidcraft goods that are normally on sale after church, then do look at their website:  www.traidcraftshop.co.uk   Orders for any items can be sent to Sally by email:  sally2002@live.co.uk, and the discount she receives will be passed on to you.

Dorothy Leo (Jean Leo’s daughter)

has been busy clearing Jean’s home ahead of putting it on the market.  She has given Jean Ford and Ross Fralley a box of various items: Birthday, Christmas and assorted greetings cards, boxed (unopened) children’s toys, boxed unopened wall clock, boxed unopened scented candle etc. With local charities not currently taking donations Phill has agreed we can operate a ‘honesty box’ in church. People can put in what they like (donation wise) for any item(s) they are interested in.  All proceeds will go to the church’s general fund. The box of items will be in the baptistry corner.

Filling Station Van

The Filling Station is about to start it’s work with the homeless in Swindon again, so the van will need to be prepared each week. We are short of one person on the rota for doing this. The job involves an hour’s work at Legge House once every 8 weeks, with two volunteers working together. If you might be able to help, please contact Joan Orman on joan.orman@btinternet.com.

A Big ‘Thank You’

Thank you to all those who came to help with cleaning the church, and getting it ready for our worship last Sunday – it was much appreciated.

Many hands did indeed mean it didn’t take too long – and despite the building works and not being able to move everything ‘back to normal’, the interior now looks presentable and clean!

Many thanks also to the flower arrangers for their arrangements, and adding some colour and natural beauty to the interior.

Thank you

The man from ‘Ayrshire’, Peter Still would like to thank you all for welcoming him into our services.  Normal services resume in his own Church from Sunday.  We give Peter all our blessings as he continues his worship in Ayrshire.

Update on Ordination Date

Just to let you know I have received a date for Ordination of Sunday 11th October at 3.30pm. At the moment we do not have any other details about the service. Once I have any further details I will of course let you know. Thank you all for your ongoing prayers – they are very much appreciated. I am beginning to feel settled and meeting people which is great and look forward to finally finishing my secular employment on the 20th August. I preach for the first time on the 30th August! You all remain in my prayers and I look forward to the time I can return to see you all. With Every Blessing, Cheryl
