Church Service -10am    We will continue with our 10am Service in church.  If you wish to book a place please continue to let Janet know you will be attending (Please let her know on office@wroughton.com or 01793 812050 by Friday lunchtime).  Things will be different to normal, so please make sure you have and wear a face mask; and be aware that you may not be able to sit in your ‘normal’ pew!  We will of course be following all the government and C of E guidelines with regard to social distancing, cleaning and other advice…..

The 10am telephone service is still taking place, so if you can’t join us in the church building please do dial in – you will be taking part in the service in church, albeit remotely.

  • To join the Sunday service first dial this number: 03300 945 940.
  • When prompted, enter the room number, followed by # on your telephone keypad: 60527473 #
  • Finally, enter the guest PIN: 2656 #
  • You may have to listen to some announcements, but you will then be automatically joined to the conference call. Join in with the responses in the liturgy as you would normally.

Calls to ‘03’ numbers are charged at the standard national rate and are included in your ‘free minutes’ if you have a call-plan.

8am service, Church at 4 and Evensong

In view of the ongoing COVID restrictions and the increased uncertainty as we head into autumn/winter, there are no current plans to re-instate these services in their pre-pandemic formats. Members of all of our congregations are warmly invited to join us on the telephone or in the church building at 10am, to watch online on our Facebook page or to use the weekly service sheet to pray with us from their homes. Church at 4 will continue on Zoom for the time being. We are keeping these arrangements under review and they are likely to change as the national situation changes.

Who are we missing? Please help us during October

We think that 90 to 100 people are joining us each week when we worship together (on the telephone, in church, on Facebook and on Zoom). This compares well with the number of people who would have met together in the Church or Church Hall before the COVID pandemic but we think that there are some people missing. It’s easy to see who’s around when we meet face to face, but not so easy on the telephone and almost impossible on Facebook.

Help needed please – If you join us on the telephone or on Facebook for a service during October then please could you just let Janet in Church Office know ‘I was there’. This will help us understand who’s taking part and therefore who we might be missing. Thanks, Phill

‘Notice of Annual Meeting of Parishioners for the Election of Churchwardens and the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM)’-

We have been given the go ahead so these annual meetings will take place on Sunday 11 October 2020 at 11am in church with a maximum of 30 people permitted to attend. There will be an option to dial in on the telephone to take part remotely. Nearer the time, you will be invited to book a place if attending in person. Agendas and copies of the Annual Reports and Accounts together with minutes of last year’s meetings will be circulated by email with some hard copies also available. Nomination forms will also be available for elections to both the Parochial Church Council and Deanery Synod. There will be six vacancies on the PCC and three vacancies on Deanery Synod. If you are interested in serving in either capacity and would like further information do please ask the Vicar/Churchwardens or Helen Toomer PCC Secretary (htoomer@outlook.com). The APCM is an opportunity for any questions or matters relating to church affairs to be raised.

Attendance at the APCM is limited by the Covid regulations to 30 people. So people need to book even if they are also attending the service (as not all at the service will be allowed at the meeting).  A separate link is attached.  It will also be broadcast on the phone on the usual number.

Church cleaning
The regular church cleaning teams are now back on duty. However, two of our cleaners have moved out of the village and are unable to continue their cleaning work. If anyone is able to fill the gap, please contact Margaret Penfound on 01793 812139. The work isn’t difficult and you will only be required to do it for a couple of hours every 6 weeks.

Wroughton Jumble Trail
Thanks to everyone who supported my stall as part of the Jumble Trail. We raised £66 for Christians Against Poverty on the day. If anyone else would like to make donation, please let me know.

Thank you. Margaret Penfound

Sharing harvest thankfulness

Our usual harvest traditions are on-hold this year, but we can still celebrate the gift of a good harvest and give thanks to God for providing for us. If you have some time then why not make your own harvest display or harvest loaf at home: https://www.dovesfarm.co.uk/recipes/harvest-wheatsheaf Send us your photos of loaves, pumpkins, apples etc. and we will put them on our website and include as many of them as possible in next weeks’ notice sheet. You could even pen a harvest poem…

Harvest collection

We aren’t collecting items for The Filling Station or Food Bank (AKA Swindon Food Collective). However if you would like to make a financial contribution to the Food Bank (perhaps the money you would’ve spent on harvest gifts) then they would be very grateful. Details of how to make a one-off donation via PayPal or a regular Standing Order can be found here: https://www.swindonfoodcollective.org/donate-funds. Alternatively, if you put cash or a cheque in an envelope clearly marked ‘Food Bank’ then you can either put it in the collection plate in church or drop it through the letter box at the Parish Office before 26th October and we will make sure that it gets to them.

Service Sheets

Now that Janet is back in the office she is able to print the weekly service sheet as ‘normal’, so you no longer need to bring your own copy with you when you come to church. There will be a (very) limited number of notice sheets available in church, please leave these for people who aren’t able to receive the notices via email.

Face masks

Unless you are exempt for medical reasons, please wear face masks whenever you’re in church and please try to ensure that they cover both your nose and mouth. People who are reading or leading intercessions may remove their mask when they get to the lectern. Thank you.

A Very 2020 Race for Life

Last Saturday I completed a 5.4km walk to raise money for Cancer Research in this year’s Race for Life. I was very happy to raise £666 and would like to say a huge thank you to all those people who sponsored me. Janet Henderson.

Spring Harvest 2021

We had been hoping to get a group together to attend Spring Harvest in April 2021. However, in the current circumstances, it’s very difficult to know what will happen next week, never mind in April next year. People are of course still able to attend on their own, but we won’t be trying to organise a group. All of the Spring Harvest session will be available on-line in 2021, so we will look into the possibility of doing ‘Spring Harvest at Home’ from the Church Hall – playing the sessions on the big screen and then using these as a springboard for discussion or prayer afterwards.  Karen Harrison

Traidcraft

There is a new Winter Traidcraft catalogue out. If you would like to order anything from it please let me know. There is 20% off pasta until mid October and masks are just £3.20. I will deliver to you if you are not going to Church.  Sally Parker  sally2002@live.co.uk

Cheryl’s Ordination

Cheryl’s ordination date has now been confirmed as 11th October @ 5.00 pm. COVID restrictions mean that it is not possible for us to travel to the cathedral to support Cheryl on this occasion (we look forward to restrictions easing ahead of her priesting in July next year!). Revd Phill will be attending on behalf of the parish and would be delighted to pass on your cards and good wishes. Cheryl’s ember cards are available at the back of church – please continue to hold her in your prayers.

The ordination service will be live streamed on the Bristol Cathedral`s YouTube channel as well as their Facebook page. The link to the Cathedral YouTube channel is below, but please note, the link will not go live until the service starts at 5.00 pm:

Posting Giving Envelopes in the Church Hall
If you are posting envelopes in the church hall letterbox during the day and find the door open, please place your envelopes in the red Parish Office letterbox inside the porch on the right. This is emptied regularly.

Photos

Please continue to send your photo’s to me office@wroughton.com  so that I can include on the notices and service sheets.  Janet
