Attending a service in church

Please make sure you have and wear a face mask; and be aware that you may not be able to sit in your ‘normal’ pew!  We will of course be following all the government and C of E guidelines with regard to social distancing and cleaning etc. our detailed Covid-19 risk assessment is available on request.

The need for social distancing means that the capacity of the church building is limited. There is also a legal requirement for us to keep a record of everyone who attends our services for the purposes of Covid-19 track and trace. If you wish to attend a service in person then please can you book your place in advance each week. You can do this in several ways:

  • On Line Booking – please follow the link to Eventbrite and select the date of the service that want to book:

08:00 Service https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/holy-communion-tickets-130765508155

10am Telephone service

The 10am telephone service is still taking place, so if you can’t join us in the church building please do dial in – you will be taking part in the service in church, albeit remotely.

  • To join the Sunday service first dial this number: 03300 945 940.
  • When prompted, enter the room number, followed by # on your telephone keypad: 60527473 #
  • Finally, enter the guest PIN: 2656 #
  • You may have to listen to some announcements, but you will then be automatically joined to the conference call. Join in with the responses in the liturgy as you would normally.

Calls to ‘03’ numbers are charged at the standard national rate and are included in your ‘free minutes’ if you have a call-plan.

Live streaming!

Following a successful trial, we are going to start livestreaming some of our services on You Tube. As well as getting video, the sound quality should be better than the phone. However you will not be able to be heard in the service.  We don’t recommend trying to use both You Tube and the phone at the same time as if it was heard on the phone it would cause an echo and there is a delay of about 30 seconds which is very off-putting.  Please visit YouTube Channel on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc6wnuTqXBYTixq-NpQgeLQ and press the subscribe button.  We will also post links on our Facebook page. The 12:00 Facebook only service will be discontinued.

Bible Study Group

The Monday morning group continues to meet by conference call, but we will have no meeting on 28th December. We look forward to resuming our virtual get-togethers in the new year. Our meetings are open to anyone who wants to understand how to apply the Bible to our everyday lives.

Church Defibrillator

After first waiting for the Church of England’s rules to change and then delays caused by the pandemic, we are now delighted to be able to report that the cabinet for the defibrillator has been mounted inside the church porch. This will be available for emergency use by people visiting the church and churchyard and also anyone in the vicinity of Church Hill.

Church Choir CD

Sometime in pre-history the church choir made a CD –  Sing of the Lord’s Goodness – and many members of the congregation possibly still have this. There are, however, many copies remaining, and we would like to offer these @ £5 each to raise money for the Swindon Food Collective. Listening to it now in 2020 it’s actually not bad! It contains music for all seasons of the church year, including some Christmas items that you may even hear in the next few weeks.   An ideal Christmas present for those in isolation, copies will be available in church on Sundays – or by contacting Janet & John on 01793 525856.

Floodlighting

The Church will be floodlit on Tuesday 22nd December by Julie Gabe in memory of Eric Whyte; On Wednesday 23rd December by Joy Symonds in memory of Pauline Kershaw; On Christmas Day by Janet Burchell & family in memory of Jack Bamford, by Pat Bevan in memory of her husband, John Edward Bevan; On Thursday 31st December by Helena Patterson in memory of Frank on his 93rd birthday.

Funerals

Please remember the friends and family of the late Mary Barrett and Anthony Thomson.

Parish Administrator / Office

I will finish work on Wednesday 23rd December at 2pm and return on Wednesday 6th January 2021.

Thank you for all your help during the year and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
