Booking for Church Services

The need for social distancing means that the capacity of the church building is limited. If you wish to attend the 10am or Church at 4 services in person then you will need to book your place in advance each week. You can do this in two ways:

There is no need to book if you are attending the 8am or 6pm services, but you will need to sign-in for Covid track and trace purposes Please make sure that you have and wear a face mask; and be aware that you may not be able to sit in your ‘normal’ pew! We will of course be following all the government and C of E guidelines with regard to social distancing and cleaning etc. our detailed Covid-19 risk assessment is available on request.

10am Telephone service

The Sunday 10am telephone service will continue until 18th July (see the update on this below), so if you can’t join us in the church building please do dial in – you will be taking part in the service in church, albeit remotely.

  • To join the Sunday service first dial this number: 03300 945 940.
  • When prompted, enter the room number, followed by # on your telephone keypad: 60527473 #
  • Finally, enter the guest PIN: 2656 #
  • You may have to listen to some announcements, but you will then be automatically joined to the conference call. Join in with the responses in the liturgy as you would normally.

Calls to ‘03’ numbers are charged at the standard national rate and are included in your ‘free minutes’ if you have a call-plan.

Live streaming the 10am service

The 10am service will be live streamed on You Tube. As well as getting video, the sound quality should be better than the phone. However, unlike the telephone option, you will not be able to interact with other people or to be heard in the service. We don’t recommend trying to use both You Tube and the phone at the same time as this could cause an echo on the phone line, there is also a delay of about 30 seconds which is very off-putting. Please visit our YouTube Channel on https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc6wnuTqXBYTixq-NpQgeLQ and press the ‘subscribe’ button.

Lifting of Covid-10 restrictions after 19th July

A number of people have asked what restrictions are likely to remain in place for people visiting the church building after 19th July. The government has again made a general announcement about changing restrictions without working through the details or speaking to stakeholders, so the short answer is: we don’t really know. However, you can probably expect face-masks to remain a requirement for the time-being and we won’t be returning to the use of ‘the common cup’ at Holy Communion anytime soon (can you sense my frustration…? Phill)

Message from Chris Mattock – Hospital Chaplain

We are grateful to Rev Chris Mattock, Lead Chaplain at the Great Western Hospital, for his help with our ‘NHS Thank you Day’ service last week. If you would like to hear his message again then it can be found on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x538PGkJYI8

Our Telephone Service

We have been having a few technical challenges with connecting the telephone service to the 10am service in church and we’re aware that music really doesn’t sound good when compressed down a telephone wire. With Covid-19 restrictions expected to end after 19th July, we anticipate being able to have more music in church, which will be a good experience for those who are physically present, but probably not for those on the telephone. After discussing the challenges with the telephone congregation two weeks ago, the time now feels right for the service in church and the Telephone Service to go their separate ways. The last 10am telephone service will therefore be on Sunday 18th July. We recognise that the Telephone Service meets a need for those people who find it difficult to get to church, or who just aren’t ready to return yet. We are therefore going to trial a new mid-week telephone service at 10am on Wednesday mornings. The new mid-week service will begin on Wednesday 21st July.

Your Parish Church – moving forward survey

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey, we had almost 60 responses from a mix of people, including regular worshippers, occasional visitors and members of the wider community, enabling us to capture a broad range of views. The next step is for the PCC to draw out common threads and themes during their meeting on 21st July.

Hand Made Bags on Church Chest:

There is a small collection of lovely bags on the church chest, that have kindly been made by a member of our church.  Please have a look and do take one if you’d like one – they would make a nice gift. There’s a suggested donation of £5 for church funds, which can be placed in the offertory plate, or in the locked wall safe to the left of the south (main) door.  If the demand is there, I’ve been told more can be made available!  Many thanks, Helena

Art and Poetry Trail 1st-8th August

We wish to join in the trail both at church and at the church hall, but we need your ideas.  Do you have a favourite piece of poetry, or a psalm you would like us to use, or do you have a piece of art that could safely be left in the churchyard?  Perhaps you could make some art out of recycled objects? Please let me have your ideas, we may not be able to use them all, but tell me anyway.  Barbara (tel.633024)
