Covid-19 update – social distancing
Many of us are becoming used to being in situations where strict social distancing rules have been relaxed and would welcome the chance to sit a bit closer to friends in church. We would like to take a cautious approach to easing social distancing measures, not least because there are still plenty of people who aren’t yet ready to take this step. We have therefore designated the rear section of the nave as an area where social distancing is no longer required, with social distancing remaining in place in the rest of the church. If you want to be socially distanced then please avoid the pews in the rear of the nave.

Pastoral care
We are thinking about how we can accompany one another pastorally, both in prayer when absent and in
person. If you would like prayer, either for a specific situation or in general, please let Chris know
(curate@wroughton.com), including details of any specific situations for prayer.
If you would like a visit so that we can talk with you, please contact Chris and a member of the pastoral team will be in touch to visit you and have a chat. This can be to talk about a specific situation, if you don’t see many people at the moment or simply to allow us to come alongside you in your story.
It would be great to know that we are praying for people who feel this would be of value and meeting together with members of the congregation. If this is something you would like, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Advent Reflections
We will be leading a series of short reflective services during Advent. These will take place on Tuesday evenings
at 7.30 on the 7th, 14th and 21st of December.

Church Building update
By now we’re all getting used to the look of the bare sections of wall in the church, in fact a number of people have commented that they rather like it! The modern plaster was removed from these areas because it was trapping water inside the wall; the walls have been slowly drying out ever since. We recently met with representatives of the Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches (DAC) to discuss our next steps. They have told us that we will need to replace the missing plaster in the North aisle and nave, however they were happy for us to investigate the feasibility of removing the lime-wash from the dressed stone of the window reveals and mullions and the archway of the former North door. It was felt that this would provide a pleasing contrast between the white-wash of the walls and the honey-coloured dressed stone. This would also be inkeeping with the bare stone of the pillars and arches in the nave. Re-plastering in the baptistry area is more problematic because the wall hasn’t dried out at all (it is below ground level!). The DAC have recommended a that our architect looks at a slightly different solution for covering the wall in this area. We also have agreement in principal for the levelling of the floor in the St Helen’s chapel and widening the gap leading to the North aisle to provide spaces for wheelchair users and better access. These important accessibility improvements are not
currently within our budget, so they will only be progressed if funds allow.

Coffees
Providing coffees at the end of the service again is proving popular. However we have run out of disposable cups so would ask that you bring your own mugs if possible. Don’t worry if you forget. You won’t go without a drink but it would help the team if we don’t have to use too many Church mugs.
Many thanks to the team and cake makers.

Healing on the Streets
……..is back! We shall resume our presence in the Ellendune shopping centre on the second Saturday of the
month from 10.30am till noon. We will be back on Saturday 11
th December to offer prayer for healing or just for

Knitting for Charity
Unfortunately Mission to Seafarers is still unable to take any more knitted hats, scarves, gloves etc. If you are still keeping some at home can I suggest that you take them to your local charity shop.
A local project you can support is to be a Brighter Futures Blanketeer. They ask for knitted or crocheted
blankets 120 x 150 cm (4 ft x5xft) which will be offered to patients in the last few days of their lives to make their room seem more homely. Completed blankets should not have glittery wool and should be washed gently when complete.
If a whole blanket seems like too big a task please make 15cm (6inch) squares and bring them into church. (Thanks to those who have already done so). Myself and a friend will complete the blankets and get them to the hospital. If possible a crocheted butterfly should be added to each completed blanket.

Bible Society
This week’s article on the Bible Society is about the vehicles bought with help from
supporters. Earlier in the year two gentlemen from Niger and The Gambia asked for
help in purchasing vehicles to help them get Bibles to remote communities. Thanks to
Bible Society supporters they have now been able to purchase 2 4x4s to carry Bibles
across very difficult terrain. These vehicles have cut down on delivery time as other
vehicles were constantly breaking down on the bad roads. Christians in Niger and The
Gambia are in the minority so this mission work means a lot. Please keep praying for
and supporting Bible Society.

November – Recycling
Set up simple systems in your home to make it easy to recycle. Where do
you need a paper and card recycling bin, what about a compost bucket?
All your plastic bottles can be recycled, from mouthwash to salad dressing – so put them all in your
recycling bin! In most boroughs, you can recycle all your plastic bottles, tubs and pots, and their tops and lids
too.

Floodlighting
The Church will be floodlit on Sunday 21st November by Bill & Doreen Greesnshields in memory of their son, Andrew on his anniversary; on Wednesday 24th November by Joyce O’Sullivan in memory of her husband, William O’Sullivan; On Thursday 25th November by Susan Barrett in memory of Mary Elizabeth Barrett; On Thursday 25th November by James Beech in memory of Eileen Beech.
Funerals
