Communication

We have come to realise that there are some ‘church’ activities going on that many of us know nothing about. If you run some sort of church group then please let Janet know so that dates can go into the newsletter diary and

people looking to join something or to volunteer know who to contact.  Feel free to ask Janet to put notices in the newsletter at any time.  Barbara

Lent course

Some people think that vocation, or spiritual calling, is just for special people… but God calls us all to live our lives shaped and directed by his call. Our Lent course this year explores the meaning of vocation for everyone. It will help us to embark on an adventure with God – a journey through life in which we make a contribution to the world around us. Whether we are 9 or 99, God calls us to follow him and make a difference in his world.

We will be running the course in small groups at various times throughout the week, beginning from Monday 7th March. Please SIGN UP for the small group that suits you best, either using the sign-up sheet at the back of church or by emailing Janet in the church office (office@wroughton.com). Groups will meet weekly for 5 weeks:

Monday at 10am (11 St John’s Road)

Tuesday 7:30pm (Church Hall)

Tuesday 7:30pm (12 Artis Ave)

Wednesday 11am (49 Perry’s Lane)

Wednesday 7:30pm (The Vicarage)

Electoral Roll Revision 2022

We are approaching the time of our annual Electoral Roll revision (27 Feb to 25 April 2022).  The roll is open to anyone over 16 years old, who is baptised and is either resident in the parish or who regularly attends our services. Being on the roll allows you to attend and vote at the Annual Meeting and, if you are not resident in the parish it gives you certain rights otherwise only given to residents. If you regularly attend our services and are not already on the roll, we would like to encourage you to join the electoral roll. Application forms are available from the Parish Office- tel 01793 812050 or email office@wroughton.com. If for any reason you attend our services, but do not feel able to be on the electoral roll please would you complete just page 1 of the form and return it so we have your consent to hold your details so we can keep in touch with you. All completed forms to be returned to the Parish Office by 25 April.

LET’S CHAT

Will be on March 10th please come along and feel free to invite members of the community. Invites to give out are at the back of the church and also one on the back of the notices.  We would love to invite anyone that contributes in any way to our community.  From the lady that leads a knitting group to the Mayor.  Most of us will be part of a group or club and we would very much like to welcome a representative at our next LET’S CHAT session. Thank you for your support.  Martina & the LET’S Team

Art Exbition

There will be an Art Exhibition at the Church Hall on Saturday 2nd April (11am-3pm) celebrating the theme of “People, Animals and Planet” and raising money for CMS. The aim is to encourage members of our local community to share and demonstrate our artistic talent whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause. There is a nominal display fee for exhibitors of £2 (under 16s £1) with free admittance for those submitting entries.

Could you produce any art, photography, poetry or sculpture to explore this deliberately broad, inclusive and contemporary theme?

Entry forms are available from the Church and Church Office and the event will of course be open to all on the day.

Books

I have several Christian books now surplus to requirements which are in a box in the South aisle near the refreshments table. If you would like any of them, please help yourself.  Margaret Penfound

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation

February – Be informed

  • Read a book to become more “carbon literate” and understand the greenhouse gas cost of your choices. Try “How Bad are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything” Mike Burners-Lee
  • Do your own internet research to become more “carbon literate”: choose one item a day this week to find out what its carbon “cost” is. For example a kg of rice produces 4kg of CO2e in production or a kg of potatoes is 0.37kg CO2e.

Suggestions in response to ‘Shop Local, Act Global’ ….(thank you Jane!)

Some supermarkets (including Waitrose) let you take your own containers for the deli, cheese, meat and fish counters. Use muslin or cotton bags for loose fruit and vegetables (try and buy loose instead of plastic covered) ….. Sainsburys are currently selling muslin bags for 30p each 🙂

Many supermarkets will take back packaging that can’t generally be recycled ….. and Tesco have very good recycling outlets for crisp packets, all sorts of plastics etc.  Do lobby your supermarket to ‘do better’ if you think there’s an area they can improve on….

Floodlighting

The Church will be floodlit on Saturday 26th February by Judith Wharton in memory of Sandy Wharton.
