Lent course – it’s not too late to join in!

This year our Lent course is helping us to reflect on what it means for each of us to be called by God; to live lives shaped and directed by his call. The course is being run through small groups, meeting at various times throughout the week. If you haven’t been able to join in yet then don’t worry – it’s not too late. Please feel free to just turn up at any of the sessions listed in the ‘This week’ section above.

Ukraine emergency appeal

Last week at 10am and Church at 4 we showed a short video from our friend Luke Cowley in Romania, talking about the work that local churches and other organisations are doing to support Ukrainian refugees arriving in Romania and Moldova. You can give to their fund supporting projects helping Ukrainian refugees, by visiting here: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/pages/refugeesinromania

Locally, Barnabas Fund/food.gives are collecting non-perishable food, blankets and warm clothing. Donation should be taken to the food.gives Warehouse in Swindon (32b, Ganton Way, Techno Trading Estate, Swindon, SN2 8EZ) 9am-5pm Mon-Fri.

Nationally, the Church of England is supporting emergency relief work through the Church of England’s Diocese in Europe and the Anglican mission agency USPG. You can support USPG’s emergency appeal here: https://ukraine-emergency-appeal.raisely.com/

If you are able to provide practical support or sponsorship to refugees arriving in the UK then please sign up on Sanctuary’s pledge site: https://www.sanctuaryfoundation.org.uk

Maundy Thursday Chrism Eucharist

The annual Diocesan Eucharist with the Blessing of Oils and the Renewal of Commitment to Ministry will take place in Bristol Cathedral on Thursday 14 April at 10:30am. This service is not only when we share in the traditional Blessing of the Oils for use in initiation and healing (Baptism, Sickness and Chrism), but also a unique opportunity for the whole diocese to come together in prayer, to break bread together, and to renew our commitment to the service of God in Christ. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Electoral Roll Revision 2022

We are approaching the time of our annual Electoral Roll revision (27 Feb to 25 April 2022).  The roll is open to anyone over 16 years old, who is baptised and is either resident in the parish or who regularly attends our services. Being on the roll allows you to attend and vote at the Annual Meeting and, if you are not resident in the parish it gives you certain rights otherwise only given to residents. If you regularly attend our services and are not already on the roll, we would like to encourage you to join the electoral roll. Application forms are available from the Parish Office- tel 01793 812050 or email office@wroughton.com. If for any reason you attend our services, but do not feel able to be on the electoral roll please would you complete just page 1 of the form and return it so we have your consent to hold your details so we can keep in touch with you. All completed forms to be returned to the Parish Office by 25 April.

Church Mission Society

Our link partners, Phill and Sylvie Good are going through a time of change and upheaval. After spending some time in North Africa, they returned to England over Christmas and were not able to go back because of COVID restrictions. They have since been back for a short while to Lebanon and are now seeking God’s guidance as to where they should return. They have many friends in Lebanon and the need there is still great. Please pray that they will discern where God is leading them to share the love of Christ.

Art Exbition

There will be an Art Exhibition at the Church Hall on Saturday 2nd April (11am-3pm) celebrating the theme of “People, Animals and Planet” and raising money for CMS, refreshments will be available. The aim is to encourage members of our local community to share and demonstrate our artistic talent whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause. There is a nominal display fee for exhibitors of £2 (under 16s £1) with free admittance for those submitting entries.  Could you produce any art, photography, poetry or sculpture to explore this deliberately broad, inclusive and contemporary theme? Entry forms are available from the Church and Church Office and the event will of course be open to all on the day.

Brighter Futures Blankets

Here are the two latest blankets we have completed. Thanks to Jean Ford for assembling the pink and red one and to Wroughton Guide company who made the central panel of small squares in the yellow/green blanket as part of a proficiency badge.  Please keep knitting 6inch(15cm) BUT please check that your knitting is a) square and b) measures 6 inches. A recent one was 8 inches square and had to be

re knitted. Also there is no need to iron your squares as the completed blankets have to be washed before they are passed to the hospital. Many thanks.  Janet Henderson

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation

March – Lent Lament

  • Join a prayer group at church (or start one if you have to) and intercede for the renewal of creation, for example pray local eco projects, halting species extinction, slowing down climate change. Find monthly intercession updates at prayandfastfortheclimate.org.uk
  • Join (or start) an eco-group in your church/town/village to be part of the renewal of Christ’s creation. Community environmental groups need the hope that Christian’s can bring.
  • Read the Easter story in one or all of the gospels. Think how you and your church will join with the whole community of creation in celebrating the salvation, renewal and new birth that Jesus’ death and resurrection brings to all things.

Church Office

The office will be closed on Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th March.  Janet Burchell
