Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and Meeting to Elect Churchwardens– these meetings will be held this year in person (no telephone or You Tube option) on Sunday 15 May starting at 11.15am in church. There will be vacancies on the Parochial Church Council (PCC) so please pray about whether you might be called to volunteer for this role. If you have been on the Electoral Roll for at least six months and would like to stand for election, nomination forms are available from either the Parish Office or Helen Toomer (htoomer@outlook.com) or at the back of church. If you are interested or would like more information please speak to any of the current PCC members or to the Vicar.

Martina’s going on placement

After Easter Martina Lewis will be undertaking a placement with Chris Mattock, the Lead Chaplain at Great Western Hospital. This is something that she needs to do as part of her ordination training and is an opportunity for her to experience a different type of ministry at first-hand. This means that we won’t be seeing her around in church for a while and she will be putting down her ‘Let’s’ commitments until at least the autumn. Please continue to pray for Martina during this next phase of her formation and development. Out of sight, but not out of mind!

Breakfast – Saturday 30th April at 10am

Following a successful morning two months ago, we are going to have breakfast at Hall & Woodhouse again on Saturday 30th April at 10.00. If you would like to join us, please put your details on the sheet at the back of church, including a choice from the menu. Alternatively, you can view the menu online at Hall & Woodhouse’s website and email your choices to Chris (curate@wroughton.com).  Looking forward to seeing lots of you on Saturday 30th April.

Monday morning Bible Study group

On Monday this week (26th) we shall be having a social meeting, starting at 11.00 a.m. and having a bring and share lunch. There will be no meeting the following Monday which is a bank holiday, but the group will resume on Monday, 10th May at 22 Kellsborough Avenue. This will be a good opportunity for others to join us.

Church re-plastering

Unfortunately we have been having some challenges securing contractors to complete the re-plastering work on the inside of the church and we have missed the weather window for getting it done this spring (Lime plastering is best done in spring or autumn when it’s neither too hot nor too cold.). The eagle-eyed may have spotted that whilst the North wall has dried out very well with the old gypsum plaster gone, the baptistry wall is still very damp and is in fact growing algae. Much of this wall is below ground level so it will need to be lined with a special membrane before it can be re-plastered.

Church Hall windows

Sadly the windows on the front of the Church Hall were vandalised last week. The building is secure and we are working with our insurers to arrange repairs.

Church Hall Outside Clock

The Parish Council has now had the clock repaired and it is now working!  Please take a look as you walk pass.

Wroughton Choral Society Farewell Concert

Wroughton Choral Society and friends will hold a Platinum and Silver Jubilee Concert on Saturday 14th May in the Parish Church at 7.30pm. The concert is free, and tickets are not necessary. There will be a retiring collection for the Prospect Hospice.

The concert celebrates both the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the Silver Jubilee (delayed from 2021) of Wroughton Choral Society. It is also the farewell concert of WCS as falling numbers have made continuation of the Society unsustainable.  Music will include favourites from both Royal coronations and past jubilees together with some favourites of WCS members.   John Henderson

25 April – deadline for Electoral Roll Revision 2022

The closing date for the revision of our Electoral Roll is 25 April so if you have been considering adding your name to the roll but have not yet filled in an application form please do so now. The roll is open to anyone over 16 years old, who is baptised and is either resident in the parish or who regularly attends our services. Being on the roll allows you to attend and vote at the Annual Meeting and, if you are not resident in the parish it gives you certain rights otherwise only given to residents. If you regularly attend our services and are not already on the roll, we would like to encourage you to join the electoral roll. Application forms are available from the Parish Office- tel 01793 812050 or email office@wroughton.com. If for any reason you attend our services, but do not feel able to be on the electoral roll please would you complete just page 1 of the form and return it so we have your consent to hold your details so we can keep in touch with you. All completed forms to be returned to the Parish Office by 25 April.

Tearfund

Tearfund is a Christian charity which partners with churches in more than 50 of the world’s poorest countries. They tackle poverty through sustainable development, responding to disasters, and challenging injustice.

East Africa is currently facing its most severe food crisis in a generation, having experienced its worse drought since 1981.Climate change has altered weather patterns in the region resulting in droughts of increasing frequency and intensity. The situation has been further complicated by local conflicts, Covid 19 and now the invasion of Ukraine has sent food prices rocketing. Tearfund are working with churches and local organisations in the region and are asking for our prayers that God will provide the resources that they need, that international attention and support is given to the region and that the much needed rains in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda will come, enabling crops to be grown.
