Breakfast – Saturday 30th April at 10am

Following a successful morning two months ago, we are going to have breakfast at Hall & Woodhouse again on Saturday 30th April at 10.00. If you would like to join us, please put your details on the sheet at the back of church, including a choice from the menu. Alternatively, you can view the menu online at Hall & Woodhouse’s website and email your choices to Chris (curate@wroughton.com).  Looking forward to seeing lots of you on Saturday 30th April.

Monday morning Bible Study group

There will be no meeting the next Monday which is a bank holiday, but the group will resume on Monday, 10th May at 22 Kellsborough Avenue. This will be a good opportunity for others to join us.

Tuesday Evening Bible Study Group

Over the next 3 weeks, the Tuesday evening Bible study group will be looking at a course called ‘For such a time as this’ exploring ecological justice. If you would like to join us for an evening of discussion, fellowship and prayer, please come along to 12 Artis Avenue at 7.30pm. See Carolyn Kirk for further information.

Job vacancy: PA/Secretary to the Bishop of Swindon

We are recruiting for this exciting opportunity to support the Bishop of Swindon using your skills and experience in an interesting and varied role. You can find full details and apply here, or search CofE Pathways for Swindon.  The closing date is 2nd May 2022.

Volunteer Needed

Some of our congregation receive the notices and 10am service sheet by hand as they do not have internet facilities.  Our current delivery person would like to retire!  Would you be prepared to walk around a few streets on a Friday delivering them.  The round could be split if we have 2 volunteers!

Church Hall Outside Clock

The Parish Council has now had the clock repaired and it is now working!  Please take a look as you walk pass.

Schools

We are continuing to engage with the schools in our parish. Rev. Phill has been doing lots of work at the Deanery and will be joining students for RE lessons during this term. I have been building links with the Infants and Junior schools in Wroughton as well as the Kingfisher school in Wichelstowe. Before Easter, this included helping teach several lessons at the Juniors’ and meeting with Year 3 classes to talk about Easter and its significance for Christians. I also led an assembly, getting children from Year 4 and Year 6 to act out the Easter story.

This went really well and the children really enjoyed the chance to do some acting! This term, we are looking at opportunities for all of the year groups to make visits to our church, have an explore and talk about what they find. We are also trying to find ways to join in with the life of each school and offering pastoral support to teachers and other members of staff.

Rev. Chris

Pastoral care

We have recently started a pastoral care team to visit people and offer support where it is needed. If you would like a visit from a member of the team, or would like someone to talk to about any issue, please contact Rev. Chris or email curate@wroughton.com so we can arrange a meeting. We would love to support you and join with you in your Christian journey.

LICC 40th Birthday evening – 12th May 7.30pm – An invitation from Paul Woolley, CEO of LICC

LICC is an organisation that helps Christians from all walks of life to grow in confidence, knowing the God can and will work through them, wherever they find themselves. May people will know their Chief Executive Paul Woolley, who lives in Wroughton. Paul writes:

“As part of our programme for the coming year, we’re on a tour of 40 cities, and we’re coming to Swindon!

The full details are here: https://licc.org.uk/40-cities/

We’ll be at Pattern Church on Thursday 12 May at 7.30pm – There’ll be refreshments, feature presentations, videos, interviews, prayer, and resources that’ll help people live as disciples of Jesus in their everyday lives. We are keen to promote this as widely as possible in churches across Swindon so please publicise widely and come along.  If people can use the online booking system, that would be great. It’s simple to use and will help us with catering and seating: https://licc.org.uk/40-cities/#register

Wroughton Choral Society Farewell Concert

Wroughton Choral Society and friends will hold a Platinum and Silver Jubilee Concert on Saturday 14th May in the Parish Church at 7.30pm. The concert is free, and tickets are not necessary. There will be a retiring collection for the Prospect Hospice.

The concert celebrates both the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the Silver Jubilee (delayed from 2021) of Wroughton Choral Society. It is also the farewell concert of WCS as falling numbers have made continuation of the Society unsustainable.  Music will include favourites from both Royal coronations and past jubilees together with some favourites of WCS members.   John Henderson

25 April – deadline for Electoral Roll Revision 2022

The closing date for the revision of our Electoral Roll is 25 April so if you have been considering adding your name to the roll but have not yet filled in an application form please do so now. The roll is open to anyone over 16 years old, who is baptised and is either resident in the parish or who regularly attends our services. Being on the roll allows you to attend and vote at the Annual Meeting and, if you are not resident in the parish it gives you certain rights otherwise only given to residents. If you regularly attend our services and are not already on the roll, we would like to encourage you to join the electoral roll. Application forms are available from the Parish Office- tel 01793 812050 or email office@wroughton.com. If for any reason you attend our services, but do not feel able to be on the electoral roll please would you complete just page 1 of the form and return it so we have your consent to hold your details so we can keep in touch with you. All completed forms to be returned to the Parish Office by 25 April.

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation

May – Holiday highlights

  1. Have a “staycation” or use public transport to travel abroad. A return flight to Greece emits 1 tonne CO2e – your whole 2019 reduction target!
  2. Think twice before you book a cruise: the environmental impact is greater than a flight with CO2e emissions of 640g per person per mile.

Funerals

We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have, died recently Doreen Hunt and Kathleen Dobbs.  We pray for all those who mourn the loss of a loved one.

Floodlighting

The Church will be floodlit on Tuesday 3rd May by John, Nikki & Chris Stow in memory of Maurice Stow.
