Mask wearing in church
The current PCC policy requesting that masks continue to be worn in church has been updated to recognise individual choice so that mask wearing will now be advisory only, providing that the president and chalice assistants will continue to wear masks during the distribution of Holy Communion. As Covid 19 has not disappeared, the situation will be kept under review.
Chris Hunter’s ordination
Chris will be ordained priest in Bristol Cathedral at 6pm on Thursday 29th September 😊
We know that 6pm in Bristol on a Thursday might be challenge for some, particularly those with work/family commitments (also clashes with choir practice!), but it would be wonderful if we could show our support for Chris by getting as many people together as we can. Booking a coach is unlikely to be economical this time, but several cars will be going and all currently have spaces. Please can you let Janet in the office know if you are either able to offer a lift or would like one (office@wroughon.com).
‘Pray and Bless Wroughton & Wichelstowe’
We are resuming our monthly Tuesday evening prayer meetings, to come together and pray specifically for our local community – first meeting is on 30 Aug then 27 Sept, 25 Oct and 22 Nov- starting at 7.30pm Church Hall for about an hour. Do come and join us.
Bible Study Group
The Monday morning bible study group at 22 Kellsborough Avenue, 10am to 11.30am will recommence on Monday 5th September. Louise & Lillian
A BRUSH WITH THE DIVINE – post workshop update
Hopefully most people will be aware of the art workshops run in church by Chris and Sue Offord over the last few months. These were an opportunity to engage with the local community, to introduce a new skill in the way of art and to purposefully introduce some basic elements of the Gospel message. The workshops engaged 17 people from the community with no links to our church, as well as 8 people from within the church congregation. The age group was between 20 and 70 years. Thank you to Chris and Sue for encouraging us by sharing their God-given gifts in this way.
What else could we do to engage with the local community? What kind of event would inspire you to give an invitation to someone you know?
Drainage works at the Church Hall
You’ll see that we have now made a start on the planned drainage works at the Church Hall, which means that the car park there will be out of action for a while. It might seem difficult to get excited about drainage, but the improvements will be worth the wait! Not only will we stop sewage from backing up and flooding the car park, we will also end up with an environmentally sustainable system for dealing with rainwater run-off from the roof. Instead of flowing into the sewer, where it will need to be processed, rainwater will flow into a new rain garden and will be naturally cleaned and filtered before being discharged into the stream.
Thank You
Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me since mid May when I began Leukaemia treatment, having lived with it for the past 18 years. It’s been an intense time of weekly 10 hour treatment sessions & many blood tests. Early blood results are positive which is encouraging. I’ve now dropped to a treatment session every 4 weeks plus daily tablets, two drugs being better than one for me.
The care I have from my Haematology team at GWH is superb, we are blessed to have such excellence here.
I have 9 more months of treatment so please keep me in your thoughts & prayers.
It’s good to be able to join you on YouTube on Sunday mornings. Best wishes to you all. Jane Catchpole
Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride for Churches
‘This year’s Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride for Churches event takes place on Saturday 10th September. The event raises funds for the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, a charity involved in giving grants for the maintenance of our historic places of worship in the County.
The event takes place between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm on the Saturday and participants visit as many of the local participating Wiltshire Churches as they choose, either by cycling, walking or even on horseback! The event is sponsored, with the participant typically raising more, with the more Churches visited. The participating churches provide a wonderful range of rural and urban churches, in many architectural styles and fashions to admire. This year the event is for the second year running having a special launch by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, this time by a video which will be published on Instagram and which can be circulated to all Parish participants who come forward. If you would like to take part, please contact your parish organiser for the event, Mike Mason. Mike can be contacted via the office email: office@wroughton.com . Mike can provide further details and a sponsorship form. There is also a JustGiving option available too.’
Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation
August – In your wardrobe
- Extend the life of your clothing and shoes by looking after them and mending. Wear them, use them, until they fall apart, then donate or recycle rather than binning old clothes and shoes.
- Set yourself a clothing challenge. Can you replenish your wardrobe for a year from second hand shops? (You may wish to exclude underwear!)
Funerals
We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have, died recently. We pray for all those who mourn the loss of a loved one.
