Remembrance Sunday—Sunday 13th November

As usual, we will be marking this important date with a Remembrance service in church, after which we will walk down to the War Memorial on Wharf Road for the wreath-laying ceremony. We will be joined in church by members of the Royal British Legion, HM armed forces and uniformed organisations, we therefore expect that this service will be very busy. Please make your own decision about the Covid-19 risks associated with large indoor gatherings.  The service in church begins at 10:00 and the act of remembrance at the War Memorial begins at 10:50 (prompt).

If you would like to join a small group, please contact the leaders of the groups below and find out where there is space. We would love to have everyone involved in a small group.

Mask wearing in church

The current PCC policy requesting that masks continue to be worn in church has been updated to recognise individual choice so that mask wearing will now be advisory only, providing that the president and chalice assistants will continue to wear masks during the distribution of Holy Communion. As Covid 19 has not disappeared, the situation will be kept under review.

Traidcraft – TODAY

I will be selling Traidcraft in Church on Sunday 6th November. Because I realise this will clash with the healing team I will have the table near the font. The following week is Remembrance Sunday which will leave possibly one more Sunday November 20th ( as we are then on holiday) to get your cards for Christmas. Traidcraft are offering a 10% discount on certain items to help with the cost of living so if you are able have a look at their website.   Sally Parker

Church@4

Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting about Church@4 last Sunday and to everyone who has contributed their thoughts and ideas.   There is a very clear desire to share the gospel with our community and to provide a space for people, formally or informally, in the coming months. As soon as we have considered everyone’s views and been able to make a decision, we will let you know what our next steps as a church will be. In the meantime, please continue to pray for wisdom as we discern how best to serve our community and to build God’s Kingdom here in Wroughton and Wichelstowe.  Many thanks, The Church@4 team

Tear Fund Big Quiz Night – Saturday 19th November at 6.45pm

TEAR Fund’s Big Quiz Night will be returning again on Saturday 19th November starting at 6.45 pm at the Church Hall. £10 entry fee will include food with all money raised going to TEAR Fund.  Please try to support this National Event by helping with food or coming along! Teams of 6-8 members are welcome to enter in advance of the night and help can be offered in joining a team!  Listen out for further details.  If you would like to donate to the Tearfund  Big Quiz evening on 19th November, money can be sent directly to Tearfund through our JustGiving page (maybe you are unable to attend but would still like to support Tearfund)
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Tearfund, so it’s the most efficient way to give – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
You can donate to our JustGiving page by clicking here https://www.justgiving.com/page/w-church?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=one_page&utm_content=page/w-church&utm_campaign=pfp-email&utm_term=3b036844892441ee8f1bdad6a3c349bb
JustGiving sends your donation straight to Tearfund and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.  Thank you for your support!

Legge House invite you to one of our two fundraising Christmas dinner.

As in previous years these lunchtime /  evening events will be a time to relax and enjoy yourselves, while supporting Legge House’s work with many young people.   As this is a fund raising event we are asking for £27.50 per person.  As usual soft drinks provided but you would be welcome to bring your own bottle.    The date will be Monday 12th December, at 6.30pm for 7pm meal.

We also plan to hold a lunch time dinner for those preferring to get home before it is dark. On   Thursday 15th at 12.30pm for 1pm meal.  Contact leggehouse@btconnect.com  or 813273 to book your place.

Pumpkin Party

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation

November – Around the home

  1. If in doubt switch to off: it is never more efficient to leave appliances running when you are not using them. Make sure you switch everything off at the plug before you go out and before you go to bed.
  2. Ensure your heating is switch off at night and when you are away from your home (except in sub-zero conditions) and save 500kg CO2e a year. Don’t heat rooms you don’t use, turn the radiator off and close the door.

Please pray for…

St John’s church in Parks and St Andrew’s church in Walcot. The churches in Parks and Walcot have been without a vicar for around a year and are being supported by clergy from across the Swindon Deanery (Chris was there on 9th Oct and Phill on 30th). Please pray that the job advert produces a candidate with the right skills and experience to love and lead them into the future.

Floodlighting

The Church will be floodlit on Monday 7th November by Rebecca Ogbourne in memory of her father,

Paul Ogbourne on his birthday; On Wednesday 9th November by Anna Godwin in memory of her husband,

David Godwin on his birthday.

Funerals

We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have, died recently Tom Poole, Jodie Costello and

Vera Sheppard. We pray for all those who mourn the loss of a loved one.
