Church – Heating

As you will be aware the heating system in Church has not been working recently.  Many of the radiators have been removed due to the building work.  However, we expect the remainder of the heating system to be working again by Sunday 26th November.

Church – Replastering

From today much of the North Aisle will not be accessible due to the builders replastering.  However we still should be able to have access to the west end for coffee.

The Filling Station – Sandwiches, Thursday 23rd November

Our church will be supplying sandwiches etc. for the homeless via the Filling Station on Thursday, 23rd November.  If you would be willing to prepare a loaf of sandwiches or supply something else, please add your name to the signup sheet on the church chest and take a reminder card.  Please note that the food needs to be taken to 11 Blenheim Road (Alan and Kathy Gregory’s).

More opportunities to join in – Christmas is Coming – Saturday 25th November

On Saturday 25th November from 11.30am to 1.00pm we will be having a Christmas family event in the Church Hall. This is for all the family but we need you to make it work.  There will be crafts, games and food.  All the crafts will be set up but we need people to oversee them and we need people in the kitchen to set out food and make drinks and wash up.  No special skills are needed but a willingness to chat would be good.  There is a sign-up list in church and soon we will be asking for volunteers to supply some of the food.  Barbara

In person Safeguarding Leadership Training

We have spaces available on the next face to face Leadership Training course taking place at the Diocesan Office on Thursday 23rd and Thursday 30th November at 10.00am. If you, or the churchwardens in your parish, need to complete this training and prefer the face to face style of learning you can book places here.

Upper Churchyard Working Parties

Thank you to everyone who’s been helping with maintaining the upper churchyard ….. and of course also to our lovely community volunteers who do such a great job in the lower churchyard.  Over the winter we’re going to try and have a working party once a month for the upper churchyard – on the first Saturday of each month from 9am to approximately 11am.  So the next one will be on Saturday 2nd December from 9am.  Followed by 6th January. You don’t have to come regularly, and you don’t have to use a mower or strimmer – there are always other jobs to do…… We have been given some money for a ‘cake fund’ to keep the troops happy 😊  Dates will only be cancelled if the weather is blowing a gale or very heavy rain…..!

Run The World in 80 Days for ‘Doctors Without Borders’

As some of you know, my daughter Nicola is travelling slowly back from Kazakhstan to England overland…….she’s currently in Albania after travelling & exploring 9 countries along the way. As a response to the current humanitarian aid needs, she’s challenged herself to run 5kms every day for 80 days – wherever she is in the world – to fundraise for the charity ‘Doctors Without Borders’ (Medecins Sans Frontiers) – who provide medical aid wherever it’s required – often in challenging & dangerous situations. Many of you will of course have responded to emergency aid requests, but if you feel able to support her fundraising efforts you can donate at:  N Thomas is fundraising for Medecins Sans Frontieres / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) (justgiving.com)  Once back in the UK (mid December hopefully), I’m sure she’d be happy to come to church & chat with anyone who’s interested in her experiences!  Many thanks, Helena

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation

November – Recycling

  1. All your plastic bottles can be recycled, from mouthwash to salad dressing – so put them all in your recycling bin! In most boroughs, you can recycle all your plastic bottles, tubs and pots, and their tops and lids too.
  2. Be pedantic about your recycling! Think about every item you put in the bin; should it go to landfill? Loo rolls come on card tubes, sweets come in foil or paper wrappers, apple cores can be composted and most packaging can be recycled now.

Floodlighting

The Church was floodlit on Monday 13th November by Jean Lawton in memory of Edward Lawton;

On Monday 20th November by Rosina Stevens in memory of Ron Stevens;

On Tuesday 21st November by Ross Fralley in memory of Joseph & Adeline Fralley and in celebration of the life of Mario Trinci;

On Saturday 25th November by James Beech in memory of Eileen Beech.

Funerals

We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have, died recently Derrick Speller and Colin Ash.  We pray for all those who mourn the loss of a loved one.

Knitting for charity

Last week I dropped off this blanket at GWH. The small squares in it were made by members of The Guides. Thank you very much.  I was also able to send off a box of 12 hats, 12 scarves and two balaclavas to Mission to Seafarers.  Thank you to all of you who knit or crochet squares or hats and scarves.  They are much appreciated.  Janet Henderson 525856
