2015 Year of discipleship

Sunday 28th June 2015

John the Baptist

A PRAYER FOR ALL CHRISTIAN PEOPLE

Lord, by your Holy Spirit,

we ask you to empower and energise

each and every Christian in their calling to serve you.

Strengthen and protect them; bless and enable them so they might be “salt” and “light”

Church at 4

Our new informal 4pm service in the Parish Hall each Sunday begins on 26th July and we would like to encourage everyone to think about how they might support this venture as we seek new opportunities to inspire and encourage present and future generations of disciples. There are many opportunities to get involved, and there will be a sign-up sheet at the back of the church after services today on which you can indicate your interest.

The Ride and Stride is scheduled for

Saturday 12th September 2015.

This year’s Wiltshire Historic Churches Cycle Ride and Stride, organised by the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, takes place on Saturday 12th September. The event seeks participants to raise sponsorship by visiting as many Wiltshire Churches as they are able in the day, either by bicycle or on foot (or horseback, if you wish), commencing at 10.00 am and concluding at 6.00 pm. The participating Churches take you across the county’s urban and rural scenery. Whether you just want to visit an handful of churches or fill the whole day, it doesn’t matter – if you are interested in taking part in this sponsored event, raising money for the maintenance and fabric of Wiltshire’s many and varied historic church buildings, please contact local event organiser, Mike Mason (tel 632574) for further details and a sponsor form. There is also a dedicated facility for this event in ‘Just Giving’, so sponsorship can be managed on line.

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD

CMS (Church Mission Society) is active in many different countries, bringing the Gospel message and practical support by means of long and short term placements.

Please pray:

  • for the work that CMS is doing in Nepal, currently distributing food, clothing and tents to those made homeless by the earthquake
  • for the reconciliation ministry in Israel-Palestine led by CMS trustee Salim Munayer who is looking for more staff as the work is growing
  • for CMS-Africa, training women in basic business skills based on biblical perspectives, to enable them to earn a living.

Mission to Seafarers

Thank you to the two ladies who have recently given me knitted hats and scarves.  I sent them off and have received a Thank You letter from the charity.

This week please pray for:-

  • Church Mission Society
  • The residents of Marlborough Road and Maskeleyne Way
  • Those attending Wedding Preparation Sessions
  • For Revd Nicola Such as she prepares for her ordination on Sunday 5th July
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Doreen Barclay, Joan Smith, Maurice New, Linda Sturman, Iris Sainsbury and Daniel O’Connor. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
