A PRAYER FOR EVERYDAY
O God, who meets us, who finds us at our places of work, in our homes and communities; Holy God, who disturbs us and turns the ordinary into the extraordinary; Living God, who calls us to find you and hear your voice in the ordinariness of our daily living, help us, move in the power of your Spirit, to make places of our work into places of your glory. who celebrate their birthdays during the coming week.
Rose Rogers on placement We welcome Rose from the parish of Parks and Walcot this Sunday who will be spending a month working alongside us as she explores her own calling. Rose will be taking part in different ways during Sunday services and on weekdays will be visiting home groups, care homes and schools during her time with us. Do have a chat with her!
This year the Wroughton Passion Play provides us with the opportunity of witnessing a dramatic retelling of the events leading towards Jesus’ death for ourselves. As we journey with the main players, we will hear their response to what is unfolding before them, with sections taken from Stephen Cottrell’s book ‘The Nail’. These meditations will be our starting point as we spend time together looking at some of the key characters and at our own response to Jesus during our Lent studies. Lent groups will start during the week beginning 15th February and run for 5 sessions- please sign up if you are interested…
There will be a short reflective service of compline each Thursday during Lent- from 6.30pm- around 7pm at church beginning on February 18th. Each week we will be focusing on a different spiritual discipline, including prayer and meditation, worship, fasting, Bible study, simplicity and service.
Confirmation Group – next meeting Wed 3rd Feb
Our Confirmation preparation group for adults meets on Wednesdays from 7.30pm – 9.00pm at the Vicarage. If you have not been confirmed, are interested in exploring the possibility of Confirmation or would like a refresher course, please come. The Confirmation will be at St Michael’s Highworth on Wednesday 20th April at 7.30pm
Baptism Service Volunteers
Would you be able to help when we have baptisms on the third Sunday at 11.30am? We need helpers to welcome the families and friends of those who are being baptised, people to help put out what we need for the service, people to help in the service and musicians. If you could help, even just once, please sign up on the sheet in church. Thank you
A planning meeting will be held on Tuesday 9th February 8pm at 17 Edgar Row Close, all welcome to bring fresh ideas for our 25th year.
We will be having pancake races in Willow Brook Gardens from 11am on Tuesday 16th February followed by pancakes in the Church Hall at 12noon. Anyone able to help let Barbara or Nicola know. This is not Shrove Tuesday but the week after which is school half-term.
Yr 1 children visiting the church It’s wonderful to be able to welcome children from East Wichel Primary to find out more about the church again this year. 52 five and six year olds will be joining us in the afternoon on Wednesday 10th February from 1.00pm. If you are available to come and help show them around the church building, help them with a bit of dressing up and talk to them about what it means to be a part of the church community, please let Nicola know.
Church at 4 – Musicians needed!
Would you be able to play at Church at 4 just once a month? We are looking for musicians to accompany songs either on their own or with others. Please contact Nicola or Michael if you could help. Thank you
Wroughton Passion Play
If you would like to be a part of the large crowd scenes in the play (no acting experience needed) we are holding an open meeting on Thursday 4th February at 8pm in Legge House for a cup of tea and a biscuit and a chat about what it involves. It will be very informal and friendly! We’d love as many people as possible to be involved in the crowd- it’s a great way to witness to the presence of our church community here in the village.

Caring for our church – new cleaners needed!
One of our volunteer cleaners has had to give up temporarily for health reasons, which leaves us very short of people willing to undertake this work. If you are fit enough to wield a broom, duster or vacuum cleaner you are amply qualified for the task! Please carefully consider if you can commit to 11/2 hours once every 6 weeks to help keep God’s house in good order and if you decide you can, contact Margaret Penfound (812139).
Would you like to be part of our coffee team? We would love to have one or two new people to help us. It will involve doing the coffees about once every 5 weeks Please speak to Sally Parker if you are interested Thank you
Women’s World Day of Prayer – Friday 4th March 2016.
It is our turn to host this service this year and we are trying something different by having the service at 4pm in the church hall. I would appreciate volunteers to do Welcoming, help with refreshments before the service, help with children’s activities and to do a reading. Also setting up and clearing up. Please see me after church or phone on 525856 or email email@example.com Thank you. Janet Henderson.
CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD
Swindon Youth for Christ
A survey in Swindon has found that 1 in 10 young people feel unable to cope with everyday life, and 19% feel they have no hope. To contact some of young people like these, the BIOS van visits schools at lunchtimes, and makes regular weekly visits to places in and around Swindon where young people congregate after school and in the evenings.
Please pray for those working with BIOS, and for the contacts and conversations that happen.
Request from Amos Kimera
You may remember Amos Kimerea from our link diocese in Uganda who stayed with us in 2014. Amos and his wife are involved in a project to set up a children’s library in a Women Education Centre in his diocese of Kampala. The centre was initiated by women from the Mother’s Union and The Christian Women’s Fellowship and the aim is to provide books for children between 1 and 15 years. Some of these children are orphans and a number of them attend schools who are unable to provide them with suitable books which prevents them from making good progress. The hope is that the library will boost the children’s ability to compete favourably with children from better schools. We are planning to hold a collection for this project and if you would like to make a donation please speak to Michael, Carolyn Kirk, or Margaret Penfound for further information.
This week please pray for:-
- Swindon Youth for Christ
- The Residents of Eyam Road and Leaze Street
- The staff and patients of Ladymead Nursing Home
- PCC Meeting
- Those organising and taking part in Wroughton Passion Play
- We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Jo Jordan, Joan Harper, Joyce Little, Jean Baker, Cliff Collier and Sandra Lowes. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
