Vacancy Update:
Our ‘paperwork group’ (a small group of PCC members) is currently hard at work putting together the documentation which will inform potential candidates about our Parish and the skills, knowledge and experience we’re looking for in a vicar to lead us in the future. The PCC will meet with the Archdeacon in September to sign off the paperwork, and the post will be advertised at the end of September. Assuming we have a good number of applicants, a shortlist will be drawn up in October The shortlisted candidates will then visit Wroughton & Wichelstowe Parish in November (with their families if applicable) to meet with our church community, and be shown around the Parish. Interviews will take place the next day. The Archdeacon (Christine Froude) and our Area Dean (Clive Deverell) will be on the selection panel – along with our nominated parish representatives as selected by the PCC – Nick Orman and Paul Woolley.
We’re blessed to have Nicola & Barbara & our Lay Ministers to lead us in worship, and are very grateful to all those who continue to help out in any way, and particularly those who have taken on new responsibilities to maintain the day-to-day running of the Parish. Do ask the clergy or Churchwardens (Helena Thomas & Mike Awre) if you have any questions or concerns about the Vacancy process or the daily life of the church.
Confirmation
We are hoping to run a short course in the Autumn to explore confirmation. If that’s something that you might be interested in, please talk to Barbara or Nicola

Please support her by prayer or sponsor the old fashion way! Jean will have the sponsor form with her in Church for the next few weeks.
Food for free
A message from Talis Kimberley-Fairbourn (local Wroughton parish councillor)…
‘Just to let you know about something that Tracey at the Ellendune Centre is doing- in order to reduce food waste and put unsellable-but-edible food in the hands of those who need it, she’s got an agreement with Tesco going and has a table in the hall with food waiting for folks who could use it to come and claim- no filling in forms, just go and pick it up. Please spread the word to those who might need it…food for free, at the Ellendune, for folks who could use it’
‘Mega Makers’ Holiday Club
Thank you to all the leaders and helpers who helped to make this year another success! We’ve all learned something new about how wide and long and high and deep God’s love for us is… and we’ve had fun playing games, listening to stories, making all kinds of things and spending time with our friends.
Late Summer Picnic– 16th September
Vision for Wroughton are looking for a few volunteers to help them in running the afternoon event… contact Brian Tildesley at secretaryv4w@yahoo.co.uk
This year’s Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust Cycle Ride and Stride is scheduled for Saturday, 9th September. The event is a chance to raised sponsorship funds by visiting as many local Churches in the Bristol Diocese (or an adjoining Diocese for that matter!), either by bike, foot or horse. Participating churches are open between 10 am and 6 pm. Funds raised go towards the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, a registered charity that helps fund repairs and maintenance on the County’s church buildings where needed. Having done the event many times in the past, it can be both a very interesting and inspiring day and brings you into contact with other local Christians as well as visiting some interesting and beautiful places of Christian worship.
To find out more about getting a sponsorship form/JustGiving details, please contact local parish event organiser, Mike Mason, on Swindon 632574 or email: masonmj@ntlworld.com.
CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD
Mission to Seafarers
Throughout a long and distinguished history, The Mission to Seafarers has grown to become one of the largest port-based welfare operators in the world, providing a service in around 200 ports, 365 days a year, across 50 countries. International Headquarters (IHQ) in London supports over 70 frontline staff and around 100 Honorary Chaplains in addition to an army of Volunteers, who visit ships, offer hospitality, drive minibuses and engage in a range of other welfare activity.
Our vision is to operate a network where seafarers are valued and cared for in the ports where the need is greatest. We are determined to be in the right ports with the right resources offering support which is relevant, compassionate and life enhancing.
Please Pray:
- For the IHQ staff in London to be efficient and caring in their administrative work
- For the chaplains based all over the world be able to bring spiritual as well as practical support to many seafarers
- For the volunteers to give generously of their time and skills in helping seafarers cope with long spells away from home.
This week please also pray for:-
- Mission to Seafarers
- The Residents of Saville Crescent and Nocton Road
- All those awaiting exam results and those who have received their A Level results and are seeking placements.
- Patients and staff at Great Western Hospital
- Patients and Staff at Moormead Nursing Home, Wroughton
