Harvest Gifts – Sunday 6th October
Our harvest celebrations will be taking place on Sunday 6th October and we will be collecting gifts for the Filling Station as usual.
Filling Station is a weekly initiative that has been running for many years to help homeless and insecurely housed people in Swindon. It’s a mobile kitchen that sets up in central Swindon every Thursday from 7pm – 8:15pm. A team serves soup, hot and cold drinks, hotdogs, and a variety of cakes and biscuits, while building relationships and just talking to the people who come along. In addition to this, the team are able to hand out to each attendee a ‘care package’ which contains a variety of basic essentials ranging from toothbrushes to blankets, that help them get through the week. Please see the back page of the notice sheet for a list of suggested donations.
Harvest Breakfast
On Sunday 6th October we will have a breakfast between morning services. Starting at 9am we will provide croissants, toast and various preserves along with fresh fruit and drinks. Come and chat to someone you don’t usually meet at church.
Knitting for Charities
The Brighter Futures Blanketeers group, who make blankets for End Of Life patients at GWH was recently a finalist in BBC Radio Wiltshire Make a Difference awards. Unfortunately we weren’t winners but should feel proud to have made the finals. Knitters from this church have contributed 18 blankets so far and I now have nearly enough squares for two more. Squares should be made from Double Knitting yarn (no glitter) and should be 6” or 15 cm. Please thread the ends in before handing them in.
There is a lot of lovely wool in the boxes in church so if you want to knit Squares please get busy. We also collect knitted hats and scarves for Mission to Seafarers so if you would rather make these there are patterns in the boxes with the wool. Many thanks Janet Henderson 525856

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation
September – At the shops
- Do you really need a new computer, laptop or phone? Manufacturing new goods has a high environmental cost. A new laptop has a carbon footprint of 200kg and a high end desk top 800kg CO2e.
- Think ahead to Christmas! How can you show love in your gift giving without costing the earth? Discuss having a Secret Santa or a price limit with family members, choose small thoughtful presents, or hand make gifts.
An invitation from Ruth Orman
For anyone who would like to join Jason & I for our wedding ceremony at Church at 2pm on Saturday 28th September. You would be very welcome to share in our day. Ruth

Preserving Creation requires Action
Our unsustainable actions have led to the current climate crisis and loss of biodiversity while increasing human suffering with the impact & consequences
of superstorms, droughts, floods and wildfires.
One clear example is the impact of fossil fuel extraction and use on the
climate. It’s estimated that thirty percent of the greenhouse gases that are impacting the climate are created by fossil fuel extraction and use.
This year the Season of Creation encourages parishes and faith groups to engage
with the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT). The Treaty brings
together nations, civil society, and faith groups to reduce fossil fuel use. It
is a global effort to accelerate a transition to renewable energy for everyone, and to phase out existing production – in keeping with what science shows is needed to address the climate crisis. Supporting it is a concrete action that can serve as a compass for a hopeful future.
All signatures will be used to influence decision-makers at the next UN conference
on climate change, COP29, scheduled for November 2024 in Azerbaijan, where fossil fuel phaseout will again be on the agenda.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
- Endorse FFNPT as an individual, through the Faith Letter, available at fossilfueltreaty.org/faith-letter
- Raise awareness by sharing on social media
- Move your money! Check if your bank accounts and savings are being used to fund fossil fuels at Switch It Green | Green Banking Platform and switch to a ‘greener’ provider.
It all makes a difference. Your actions can help keep global warming at or below 1.5 degrees Celsius, preserve biodiversity, and honour God’s Creation.

TOILETARIES
The life style of most of the clients is such that they need everything, every week. Surprisingly, soap is one thing we don’t need, as there is limited access to water to use it, and the toilets they use supply it anyway! Again we have listed some suggestions. Small and many is better than big, as they will get lost quickly!
