Trinity Sunday

A Trinity Prayer

I bind unto myself the name,
The strong name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation
salvation is of Christ the Lord.   Amen

Wednesday 7:30pm at 12 Artis Ave

Swindon Youth for Christ

We are delighted to be welcoming Dave Clarke, Director of Swindon Youth for Christ (SYFC) to our 10am service on Sunday 23rd June (which is also our Patronal Festival). Dave will be preaching for us and sharing some stories about the encouraging work that they are engaged in. We will be working with SFYC in the new Deanery Secondary School, which opens in Wichelstowe on 4th September. Please pray that this will be an exciting and fruitful partnership for the Gospel.

For some years, SYFC has been developing “LUSH”, a course on sex and relationships which is used as part of schools’ personal, social and health education curriculum. Recently, in addition to the tried and tested material, they have added a new session looking at the effects of pornography. The programme recognises that young people need safe spaces to talk about these important life issues.

Please pray that more schools will invite SYFC to provide these courses for them, and that young people will be transformed for the better by this work.

Spring Harvest 2020

Spring Harvest is a teaching and worship event for everybody. It’s a unique break for all the family: holiday, festival, conference, and an encounter with God. Many people from our church have been going for years! Next year we’re hoping to go as a group to Spring Harvest “Minehead 2”, which is the week after Easter, from 13th-17th April 2020 (“Minehead 1” is during Holy Week, and tricky for the ministry team to manage). We’re planning to book as soon as booking opens on 26th June (as accommodation goes quickly). We’ll get more information to you over the coming weeks, but to start with there’s some information on the noticeboard about prices. Do start thinking and praying about whether you can join us!

Date for your diary!

This autumn we will be having a ‘Parish Weekend at home’. Please keep the weekend of 12th and 13th October free. We have a guest speaker booked and hope to include plenty of opportunities for fellowship and laughter as well as growing in our relationship with God.

The Deanery School

The Deanery school building in Wichelstowe is complete! The keys are due to be handed over from the Department of Education to Linda Culling, the school Principal at the beginning of July. Various community groups have already booked to use the facilities over the summer and the school will open its door to the first pupils on Wednesday 4th September. Please continue to pray for all involved and especially the children who will play such an important role in establishing this new school community.

We still have one vacancy for a Foundation Governor. Please speak to Revd Phill if you’re interested in contributing to the success of the school in this way.

Godly play

There is some FREE training being offered by the Diocese at St. Peter’s, Penhill, Swindon on Saturday 22nd June (9am to 3pm).

Godly play is all about story-telling and using creative ways to invite younger (and older!) people into bible stories, encouraging them to connect the stories with personal experience.

If you’re interested then please book yourself on via Eventbrite: https://introducinggodlyplay-diobrizzle.eventbrite.co.uk

Church Finances

We want to continue to bring the good news of the Gospel to our community, to be good news for our community; however, this costs money. Towards the end of June we will be providing some further information and detail about our financial position. Please do take time to read and reflect on this and consider what response you might make.

Martina’s Ration Challenge:

Martina Lewis will be eating the same rations as a Syrian refugee during Refugee Week – just a small amount of rice, flour, lentils, chickpeas, beans, fish and oil. Please sponsor Martina and show refugees we’re with them, not against them. All proceeds go towards the work of Concern Worldwide (UK).

Cream Teas – Thank You

We had a brilliant day, sun shining, band playing and crowds of people.  With a wonderful result of over £1200 raised – most ever.  Thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard and all those who came and supported us.  A great Ecumenical event and also a very good village event.

Holiday Club craft

We need corner yogurt containers and small glass jars (mustard size) for the children to use in some of the craft at holiday Club, so if you have any please save them for us. Any left over will be recycled.

Teresa’s Ordination

Teresa Townsend will be ordained on Saturday June 29th in Bristol. The coach will leave from the Ellendune (outside surgery) at 1.45pm. Cost is £10, includes driver tip. Please pay either Jean Ford or Ross Fralley. There are still a couple of seats left.

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD

Knitting for Mission to Seafarers

At the end of April I was able to send off another 30 hats and 16 scarves. This brings the total for the year so far to 75 hats and 45 scarves which is magnificent. Thank you very much.  The charity are always grateful to receive our knitwear so if you need a knitting project there are patterns available in church, or if you can donate some wool please leave it in one of the boxes by the blue vestry curtains. Details from Janet Henderson 525856.

This week please also pray for:-

  • Swindon Youth for Christ
  • Swindon Food Collective
  • For the family and friends of Hunter as he is christened in Church this morning
  • For the family and friends of Patrick & Roxanne as they are married in Church on Tuesday
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Eveline McKay and Sister Danes.
  • We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
