Bible Society

Bible Society have partnered with the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity to develop a Bible that is aimed at helping Christians to connect their faith to their every day lives.

We need your help to design the new cover of the new Bible, so on the table near the coffee area are some questions about cover designs and concepts. Please do have a look, answer the questions and give your sheet back to me over the next few Sundays.

All your responses will be confidential and just used cumulatively for the purpose of research.

I’m around today to answer any questions or you can email me at: andy.bissex@biblesociety.org.uk

THE JOY OF ART

On Sunday 14th July 24(3pm to 4.15pm) Chris and & Sue Offord will be running and hosting a session exploring a classical piece of Christian art within a biblical context.   The session will include a short talk, plus a discussion with the group and a chance to sketch a portion of the masterpiece under the guidance of Chris.   It will take place at Delni Art Gallery Studio at Studley Grange Garden centre, Wroughton with refreshments available.  Places are very limited due to space, so please book your place with Chris either by email (delniart@gmail.com) or mobile (07866075474).

Volunteers – Little Lambs

Volunteers welcomed to join the friendly team at the long running Little Lambs, baby, toddler, pre-school and Parent/ cover group in Wroughton.  Run by the Churches in Wroughton we rely on volunteers to set up, help with refreshments etc.  Please speak to Peter & Karen Ferguson or Lyn Hezlett to find out more.  We meet on Wednesday mornings at the Ellendune Centre.

Upper Churchyard Working Parties

Help to keep our churchyard looking its best……do come and join us on our next dates for tidying up the upper churchyard.  The first one is an evening – Wednesday 17th July from 5.30pm.  Followed by a morning session on Saturday 17th August from 9am.…… just an hour or two’s help makes a big difference and tasks are varied.  All equipment and refreshments provided.  Sessions will go ahead unless the weather is particularly unpleasant!

Rocks of Love and Kindness

The children who came to our wildlife day last month enjoyed painting rocks as one of the activities.  In fact they were very enthusiastic and prolific!  It seems a shame not to share the love and enthusiasm that was put into the activity – so most of the rocks have now been placed around the churchyard by Alba and Rosie Lenik 😊 If you find one (many are on benches) use your senses to enjoy the colour, shape and feel of them – and please feel free to take one home if you wish……

Thank You

Sadie and Matthew would like to thank everyone for their kind best wishes and help in making our wedding such a special day. We are pleased to say that £961.92 was raised for the National Autistic Society and to thank everyone for their generosity.

Week 7 – Ephesians 4:17-5:2 New Clothes

People often suppose that Christian behaviour is simply a matter of self-discipline, of getting your body to do certain things, and not do certain things. Paul makes it clear in this passage that changes in behaviour require a renewal of the mind.

  • When it comes to changing behaviour, do you agree that the mind is the place to start, rather than the body? Explain.
  • How does Paul describe the pagan mind and heart? What kind of behaviour resulted from that thinking?
  • How is this thinking and behaviour similar to our culture today?
  • In contrast, what did the believers receive (v20-24)?

Now that we are ‘in Christ’ we are urged, in the power of the Spirit, to take off the old way of being human, like stripping off a shabby and worn suit of clothing and to put on the new. The old must come off before the new can go on.

  • What are the sins that Paul says we are to put off?
  • What new behaviours are we to put on instead? What reason does Paul give for each?
  • How can we be made new the attitude of our minds (v23)?
  • What overriding reason does Paul give for changing our thinking in order to change our behaviour?

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation

July –Transport Tips

  1. Halve the carbon cost of every car journey by car sharing. A medium car emits 360g of CO2 a mile whether it has one, two or more people in it. Join a car share club online and save up to £1000 a year.
  2. If you are driving show love and respect to cyclists by improving your road behaviour. Their bike mile has a carbon footprint of 2g compared to your small car of 280g CO2e a mile.

Mission to  Seafarers

This week I have sent off 11 scarves, 3 balaclavas and 34 hats to this charity. A big thank you to all of you who have made these garments. They are much appreciated.

The Bible Project

If you want an accessible and creative way of exploring the books of the Bible, then I can highly recommend The Bible Project. What is the Bible Project?

‘We are a nonprofit, crowdfunded organization that makes free resources like videospodcastsarticles, and classes to help people experience the Bible in a way that is approachable and transformative. We do this by showcasing the literary art of the Scriptures and tracing key biblical themes from Genesis to Revelation.’

The Bible Project have produced overviews on every book of the Bible and have a vast array of links to other study resources to help people engage with scripture. There are also loads of free, downloadable posters and images that you can use … here’s an example from the book of Ephesians:  Andy
