A fond farewell to Revd Chris and family

Sunday 7th July is Chris Hunter’s last Sunday with us as he gets ready to start in his new post as Rector of the Canalside Benefice from 16th July. Sally and the children will be with us for a few more weeks and will remain in Wroughton until the end of the school term, after which will all move to their new house near Trowbridge. It’s with a mixture of joy and sadness that we say goodbye to the Hunters. Joy because this marks the successful completion of Chris’ ‘phase 2’ training and an exciting new chapter for them as a family and sadness because they have brought so much to the life of our church whilst they’ve been here and we will miss them. Please join us after the 10am service for a small celebration of their time with us. Revd Phill.

Chris Hunter’s Licencing Service – Tuesday 16th July

The coach to Chris’ licencing service on 16th July will leave from the Ellendune Centre at 5.30pm sharp.

Please arrive in good time as we need to check people on and also allow for traffic conditions.  We will be leaving for the return journey to the Ellendune at 9.00pm.  If you have any queries please speak to Ross Fralley or Janet Burchell.

This was genuinely the best photo of Chris that I could find! Revd Phill

HOLIDAY CLUB

We are planning to run a children’s holiday club again this year for 3 mornings on 6th, 7th and 8th August. We will be inviting primary age children to join us. If you would like to help out in any way, for some or all of the days, we need support with craft, drama, refreshments and setting up. All helpers would be most welcome.  Please speak to Hannah or      Carolyn for further details.

Bible Society

Bible Society have partnered with the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity to develop a Bible that is aimed at helping Christians to connect their faith to their every day lives.

We need your help to design the new cover of the new Bible, so on the table near the coffee area are some questions about cover designs and concepts. Please do have a look, answer the questions and give your sheet back to me over the next few Sundays.

All your responses will be confidential and just used cumulatively for the purpose of research.

I’m around today to answer any questions or you can email me at: andy.bissex@biblesociety.org.uk

THE JOY OF ART

On Sunday 14th July 24(3pm to 4.15pm) Chris and & Sue Offord will be running and hosting a session exploring a classical piece of Christian art within a biblical context.   The session will include a short talk, plus a discussion with the group and a chance to sketch a portion of the masterpiece under the guidance of Chris.   It will take place at Delni Art Gallery Studio at Studley Grange Garden centre, Wroughton with refreshments available.  Places are very limited due to space, so please book your place with Chris either by email (delniart@gmail.com) or mobile (07866075474).

Volunteers – Little Lambs

Volunteers welcomed to join the friendly team at the long running Little Lambs, baby, toddler, pre-school and Parent/ cover group in Wroughton.  Run by the Churches in Wroughton we rely on volunteers to set up, help with refreshments etc.  Please speak to Peter & Karen Ferguson or Lyn Hezlett to find out more.  We meet on Wednesday mornings at the Ellendune Centre.

Thank You

Sadie and Matthew would like to thank everyone for their kind best wishes and help in making our wedding such a special day. We are pleased to say that £961.92 was raised for the National Autistic Society and to thank everyone for their generosity.

Week 6 – Ephesians 3:14-21 Power and Love

1)            This section of Ephesians is Paul praying for the Ephesian church.

What would be your prayer for our church?

2)            When you look back, what has God been saying to you over the past

years? Three years, five years or ten years, what do you feel God is saying?

3)            Paul prays for the Ephesians to “have the power to comprehend what is

the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge”. What does it mean to you to think of the breadth, length, height and depth of the love of God?

4)            How do we comprehend these things? How do we understand things that

are impossible to understand?

5)            What does studying the bible mean to you? When you read the bible,

what are you seeking?

6)            Paul then prays for the Ephesians to know the love of Christ that

surpasses knowledge, so that they may be filled with the fullness of God. What do you receive when you come to church?

7)            As a church, what do we give to one another?

8)            At the end, Paul turns it all back to God. How do we do this in our

lives? How do we take what God is saying, our attempts to comprehend the mystery of God and the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, and focus fully on God?

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation

July –Transport Tips

  1. Halve the carbon cost of every car journey by car sharing. A medium car emits 360g of CO2 a mile whether it has one, two or more people in it. Join a car share club online and save up to £1000 a year.
  2. If you are driving show love and respect to cyclists by improving your road behaviour. Their bike mile has a carbon footprint of 2g compared to your small car of 280g CO2e a mile.

Mission to  Seafarers

This week I have sent off 11 scarves, 3 balaclavas and 34 hats to this charity. A big thank you to all of you who have made these garments. They are much appreciated.
