KEEPING WARM THIS WINTER

Each winter Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy runs it’s programme of ‘Keeping Warm This Winter’ – friendly, pop-up ‘Energy Advice Cafes’ hosted at community gatherings in venues throughout Swindon and Wiltshire to reach residents struggling with energy costs.

At the cafe people can get advice, tips and have their questions answered about heating and energy at home and see examples of simple, effective but cheap energy-saving measures they can use. There’s information to take away and useful free giveaways. People coming along can also be signposted to further support such as Warm and Safe Wiltshire, to check eligibility for grants and help with energy bills and energy efficiency measures at home. Join us for a slice of cake and a warm drink at 10:30 on the 29th of October at the Parish Church Hall, Priors Hill, Wroughton, Swindon, SN4 0RT.

The event is being supported by Eco Church Bristol Diocese – www.bristol.anglican.org

Diocese launches Statement of Needs ahead of Bishop appointment process

The Diocese of Bristol has released its Statement of Needs, a comprehensive and prayerfully discerned document outlining the vision, priorities, and aspirations for the next Bishop of Bristol.

Following an extensive consultation involving over 1,200 voices from across the Diocese (including clergy, lay leaders, youth groups, and diverse communities) the Statement of Needs reflects a shared longing for a bishop who is a relational, visionary, and rooted in prayer. It sets out the qualities, leadership areas, and strategic challenges that will shape the next phase of episcopal ministry in the Diocese.

You can read the statement of needs at https://www.bristol.anglican.org/news/statement-of-needs.php

THE FILLING STATION

Every week two people pack the van with 6 bags of tins and tidy it ready for a Thursday evening. This is done on a rota, which for many years has been prepared, in the autumn for the following year, by Jack and Pam Gower. Most of the packers are members of the church and is done in pairs, between Monday & midday Thursday. Are you interested in taking over running and staffing of the rota, as Jack & Pam are standing down. If you are interested please speak to Revd Phill or Janet Burchell, Parish Office.

Jenny Groves our former Organist

Revd Cheryl Hawkins writes from Burnham of Sea:

Please remember in your prayers our Oragnist Jenny Groves who has died and whose funeral is Next Tuesday. Jenny was the Organist at Wroughton Church in the 1960s to the end of 1973 and her two eldest children were in the choir – it has been a lovely connection to have with the family and we chatted about when I did the funeral visit. Her youngest child was born in March 1973 and I was born December 1973 – the family moved back to Burham on Sea in December 1973!

REFRESHMENTS AFTER 10 AM SERVICE

Many thanks to all those who have provided us with delicious cakes and bakes for our refreshments after the 10 am service, it’s much appreciated. We thought to ensure don’t have lots of cakes on one day and none on others we could provide a sign up sheet….just add your name if you’re able to provide cake on a certain Sunday. The first sheet to cover October will be in church at the end of the month.  No pressure as there will always be biscuits available if no one brings cake!

Thank You

I would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards and good wishes after my knee replacement. I am recovering well.  Carolyn Perry
