Special Choral Evensong

Sunday 7th September 6.00pm

Our normal September Choral Evensong will be an extended cathedral-style service with many invited singers to swell the numbers of our own choir.

This special service is to celebrate the 80th birthday of our organist Dr John Henderson FRSCM, who has been in post in Wroughton for 31 years and was the founder and director of Wroughton Choral Society. An unusual feature of the service is that all the music, before, during and after the service, was composed by Dr John, who is a published and prize-winning composer. The service will also be broadcast live on the church YouTube channel.

No booking is needed but be warned that the church car park is likely to be very full. For further information ring 01793 525856

Christ Church, Swindon – GOLD eco church award!

Congratulations to Christ Church who, following a rigorous assessment procedure and an interview day with 2 assessors, have achieved the Gold Eco Church award from A Rocha. Apparently, Christ Church is the 109th church in Britain to reach the Gold standard. They are the third Anglican church in the Bristol Diocese to do so, following St Peter’s Henleaze and Hazelnut Community Farm, and the first church here in Swindon.

Care for the Family are promoting their course for couples:

Our popular marriage event, Going the Distance, will be coming to Swindon in October! Join us and discover how you can effectively deepen your connection and build the marriage you both want 🤝

But you might be asking yourself, ‘will this really be worth leaving the house for?’ And we’d respond with a resounding, ‘Yes!’ In fact, 100% of those who have given us feedback this year would recommend it to other couples.

This is what some of them had to say:

👉 ‘You’ve worked hard to make it a non-threatening space with loads of helpful food for thought to help strengthen marriages.’

👉 ‘Always good to take time out, take stock, look at ways of doing things better.’

👉 ‘Excellent event delivered in a very engaging way. Honest, practical and fun.’

DoubleTree by Hilton, Swindon on 21st October 7:30pm. Follow the link to book: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/going-the-distance-swindon-tickets-1345017285909?aff=GTDswinEmails#msdynmkt_trackingcontext=ba880128-ed46-4b6f-b4d4-faac64df0000

Thank You

Sue Day has decided it is time to hang up her cake making apron. A great big Thank You for all the wonderful cakes we have enjoyed, especially the brownies, after 10am services.

COSTUMES

After clearing out the library room at the church hall, we have a large number of shalwar kameez type outfits left over from the passion play. They are nearly all adult sizes, and are made from good quality grey-green cotton lawn. Does anyone have any idea of any organisation that might have a use for any of them? If you know of a drama group, charity or anyone else that might be able to make use of some of them, please speak to Joan Orman.

A request from Kingsdown Crematorium

Since March 2024 we have given away around a 1000 teddy bears to children who have attended Services at Kingsdown. We have had such positive feedback from families, Funeral Directors and Celebrants so we would very much like to continue the scheme but we need more “Teddy” donations in order to be able achieve this. As I’m sure your families have benefited from our “Comfort Bears” can I please ask that you pass the word round to all your staff, family, friends, neighbours etc. and ask if they have teddies to donate. Perhaps you may pass a charity shop and they might have some good condition teddies in if you’re feeling generous. We do have plenty of soft toys that we keep in Reception and sometimes put out on the flower terrace, so we do specifically need just Teddy Bears on this occasion. Thank you.  Janet is happy to collect teddies in the church office!

Church Cleaning

Thank you to the three people who have offered to join the church cleaning rota. The new list will be done by the beginning of September and emailed to you.
