Vacancy in See Consultation

As we prepare for the retirement of Bishop Viv this September, we are entering a significant period of discernment for the Diocese of Bristol. Your spiritual insights and experiences as members of the family of God in this place are vital to this process. You are invited to take part in a short (5 minute) on-line survey to help shape the vision and priorities for our next bishop. You can find the form here:

https://www.bristol.anglican.org/churchlife/help-shape-the-future-of-the-diocese-of-bristol-your-voice-matters/

Our own Nick Orman is a member of the Vacancy in See Committee, which will help to select our next Bishop. If you have any questions or queries about the process, or want to offer your thoughts or reflections, then please speak to Nick.

Beetle Drive, Sat 19th July 5 – 7.30pm, in the Church Hall

Everyone is warmly invited to the Beetle Drive!

It is a fun game for all ages!  It is not a team game, but is played around tables, with some changing seats, which makes for an enjoyable social time.

There will be a break at half time for refreshments.  This will be a picnic style bring-and-share.  Please bring enough food and drink for your own needs, then there should be plenty for all.  Of course, those with dietary restrictions will not be sharing their food! Hot drinks will be available.  To minimise clearing up, please bring your own plates, cutlery and mugs/glasses.

If you would like to come, please sign the list at the crossing in church, or let Janet in the office or any of the PCC know. This will help us know roughly how many tables to put out.  Do please just turn up on the day if you decide at the last minute.  PS. There is no charge!

SUMMER ACTIVITY DAY

We will be holding an activity day for children aged 5-11 on Tuesday 12 August from 9.15-3pm. It will cost £5 per family and will include lunch. Booking forms available from the Parish Office or by emailing office@wroughton.com. Our theme this year is Little Acts Big Changes and we will be learning about the story of Jesus feeding the 5000 and thinking about how Jesus values everything we bring no matter how small we think our contribution is. We welcome any volunteers who can help on the day and we’re looking for some resources – fish shaped cookie cutters, AstroTurf, and traditional baskets. Most of all  however we would value your prayers for the organisers and the children who will be attending. For further information please speak to Hannah Wrixon or Carolyn Kirk.

The Filling Station – Sandwiches, Thursday 17th July 2025

Our church will be supplying sandwiches etc. for the homeless via the Filling Station on Thursday, 17th July.  If you would be willing to prepare a loaf of sandwiches or supply something else, please add your name to the signup sheet on the church chest and take a reminder card.  Please note that the food needs to be taken to 11 Blenheim Road (Alan and Kathy Gregory’s).

‘Act Now, Change Forever’ – the Biggest Climate Lobby in UK history

Next Wednesday 9th July, I’m off to London to join the mass lobby to urge our MPs to help create a fairer, more stable and resilient future for everyone.  As well as hopefully meeting and having a conversation with my local MP, it will be an opportunity to connect with people from many other organisations, especially Christian ones, such as Tearfund, Christian Aid and Green Christian, to hear from inspirational speakers, and take part in a prayer vigil ❤️ I’m really looking forward to being part of this amazing day and ask for your prayers for myself and all those taking part, including the MPs themselves of course! This is a chance to demonstrate that the climate crisis is a top priority across the church and wider society, as we stand together for people, climate and nature. (and if you’re interested, do ask me after the event how the day went!)

Save the date:

Church Teams Day – Saturday 27 September, Pattern Church Swindon

A chance for us all to come together for learning and collaboration and to explore ways of serving our congregations and the wider community. There will be worship, food and refreshments, as well as opportunities for creative thinking to take back to your parish from a range of workshops on a variety of themes, such as: fundraising, buildings and culture change in your context! Invites to follow soon.

Thank you

Many thanks to everyone that helped, provided scones, table top items and came to our Cream Teas event at St Joseph’s.  We managed to raise £1300.00 for the Prospect Hospice.  Ann Moss, St Joseph’s Church

Churchyard Committee – help needed

Thank you very much to all who helped with the recent Churchyard tidy up.  You did a fantastic and much appreciated job!

We are currently in the situation where we are in need of some admin and liaison help with organising the duties that our church has responsibility for in our cherished Churchyard.  These tasks are done by the Churchyard Committee, which reports to the  PCC, but you DO NOT have to be a member of the PCC to be involved.  The Committee only meets twice a year, when it conducts an inspection of the Churchyard and discusses current issues.  There is a small amount of work between meetings.  The roles that currently need filling are:

  1. A new chair person (must be from the PCC)
  2. Someone to take the minutes
  3. Someone to organise occasional working parties for the Upper Churchyard
  4. Someone to be the liaison with Swindon Borough Council

A volunteer has kindly come forward for 2 and 3.  If you feel you can help with either of the others, or would like to serve on the Committee in a general capacity, please contact any member of the PCC.

Knitting for Mission to Seafarers

Last week I sent a box of hats and scarves to this charity and received this lovely email.

“Just to let you know we have safely received your parcel of 31 hats and 7 scarves.

Could you please forward our grateful thanks to the ladies of Wroughton & Wichelstowe parish church, who knit them, the seafarers really appreciate them. I attach a pattern for neck warmers.

Kind regards, Dianne “

Thank you to all who knitted hats and scarves.  I will print out some neck warmer patterns and put them in the box by the choir vestry.  Janet Henderson
