Have your say on Recruitment of Our New Vicar –

Sunday,  February 8th at 10.00 am followed by Bring and Share Lunch

As part of our process for our recruiting a new vicar, Rosy Ashley, Diocesan Adviser for Parish Development will be joining us to lead a special service at 10.00 am on Sunday February 8th. There will be a short form of Morning Worship interwoven with specific time provision made for Rosy to walk us through our reflection, prayer and discernment of what we would like in our new Vicar and the future direction of our Church. This will include time for discussion and congregation participation with her – very much our chance to air views and have our say.

There will be a bring and share early lunch afterwards and the chance for further discussion.

The aim of the Service is to inform Rosy, in conjunction with us, to write a short single sided document called Christ’s Call – essentially a summary of what kind of Church God is calling us to be. This will be prominent in the Parish Profile document which will be the basis of our recruitment effort. Applicants consider this very carefully and it is our chance to tell them who we are.

For those who join us online you can use the chat function to interact with us and we will ensure that your contributions are included.

For the lunch please can  you sign-up to say what food  you propose

to bring on the sheet in Church.

New Sound System

We have a new sound desk installed last Friday 23rd January and although it works well for those who are in church we apologise that we need to adjust the settings for those joining us on youtube so that you can hear the music.  We will continue with fine tuning the settings over the next 2 or 3 weeks and we should end up with a much better live stream.

Tuesday Small Group – Church Hall

We have just finished the Bible Society’s Bible Course and we will be starting their course on the Book of Romans.  The course tackles ten big themes found in the book of Romans which are key to understanding the Christian faith:

  • Gospel – how can we become confident in our faith?
  • Sin – what’s wrong with the world?
  • Salvation – what’s so amazing about grace?
  • Peace – how can we find rest in a stressful world?
  • Freedom – how can we avoid negative cycles?
  • Hope  what has God promised?
  • Mystery – if God is sovereign, what is our role?
  • Devotion – how can we live full on for God?
  • Community – how can we live together in love?
  • Mission – how can we be ambitious with the gospel?

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month.  If you would like to join us please speak to us.  Nick & Joan

Breakfast in church – Sunday 15th February

The next breakfast in church will be held on the Sunday before Lent, Sunday 15th February.

Please join us for a continental breakfast which will be served between the two morning services, from 8.50am to 9.45am.

Everyone is warmly invited to enjoy delicious food, chat and fellowship together as we look forward to the season of Lent.

Church Health & Safety

The PCC recently reviewed all the arrangements that are in place to keep us and any visitors safe while on church premises – or taking part in any church volunteering or activities. A gentle reminder that we all have a responsibility to take reasonable care of ourselves and others, so please do let someone know if you see or feel anything is unsafe in the church environment – whether that’s in the church itself, our churchyard/work store, or the church hall – or indeed if an accident or incident happens. Just let the churchwardens or anyone on the PCC know, or contact the office, or Helena Thomas on 07909 882150 with any concerns or questions.  Thank you!

Filling Station – Volunteer Driver

The filling station are asking for a volunteer to drive the filling station van on a Thursday (its 6 till 8) on a rota, about every five weeks.  If this is something you could help with please contact Angus Macpherson macpherson.angus@btopenworld.com

Open the Book

Last Monday some of our Open the Book team went into East Wichel primary school and did two assemblies, the first to the infants and the second to the juniors. The theme was LOST and we acted out the stories of the shepherd who left his 99 sheep to find the one that was lost, and Jesus seeking out a lost soul and finding ZAccaeus in a sycamore tree. He was so moved by Jesus’ kindness that he repented, made right his wrongs and gave his wealth to charity.  The children really enjoy the stories and we feel that this is a great way to connect with the community. If you think that you could join the team to go into a school once or twice a term please speak to Joan Orman or Barbara Abrey.

Knitting for Charity

These are the latest blankets I have assembled from your donated squares. Thank you very much. I’ll be delivering them to the hospital for the end of life unit later this week. These are numbers 30 and 31 since we started this project in 2022. If you would like to knit or crochet squares they should be in DK wool, no glitter, and 6 inches or 15 cm square. Please thread in ends and leave them in the boxes by the choir vestry at church. If you would like to be involved but don’t knit then please consider donating balls of Double Knitting wool, all colours welcome. We also donate knitted hats and scarves to The Mission to Seafarers. There are some patterns in the boxes and completed hats and scarves can also be left in the boxes by the choir vestry. For further information contact Janet Henderson 525856.
