Trinity 9
A Trinity Prayer
I bind unto myself the name,
The strong name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation
salvation is of Christ the Lord. Amen

Our Vision
Update on parish finances
Thank you to all who have returned their Giving in Grace response cards. Just over half of you have done this. If you haven’t returned yours yet then please do so.
We want to continue to bring the good news of the Gospel to our community. We currently spend £2,334 each week on serving the communities of Wroughton and Wichelstowe, maintaining our buildings and supporting our mission partners. Until last week we had been £241 per week short of this amount. We are delighted to be able to report that based on the response forms received to date we have pledges of £210 per week towards this. Thank you.
If everyone were able to give an extra £2.20 per week then we would be secure financially and able to do all of that we plan to do in the next 12 months. Please prayerfully consider your response to this challenge.

First day of term at the new Deanery CE School
To celebrate the arrival of the first students to the new school, the governors, local churches and businesses are planning a welcoming event on the morning of the opening day. At 8:00am on Wednesday 4th September Children and parents will be invited to gather inside Hall and Woodhouse for some simple refreshments (donations to the Air Ambulance) and an opportunity to mingle with the welcome team. From 8:20am students and parents will gather on the Plaza. Students will then be ‘waved’ into school by a corridor of people waving brightly coloured flags.
Question: are you available at 8am on 4th September? Can you smile? Can you manage to wave a flag?
It would be really good to get as many people as possible together to show our support for the new school community and the important place that it has in our parish. Please let Janet in the office know if you can make it (01793 812050). Many thanks Phill
Parish weekend @ home 12th and 13th October – When you pray…
We will be staying at home for our parish weekend this year, using the church hall and church as our venues for getting together. This will keep costs down and hopefully enable as many people to join in as possible. There will be a special programme of sessions and activities on Saturday 12th, with the themes from Saturday carrying on into our regular Sunday services on October 13th.
We will be thinking about some of the things that Jesus said about prayer. Does he contradict himself when he tells people to pray on their own and in secret (Matt 6:6) and then later tells them to agree together in prayer (Matt 18:19)? Canon Roger Morgan will be our guest speaker for the weekend. Roger is the director of the Mathetes Trust, an organisation that promotes Christian discipleship. We hope that you will find the sessions engaging and varied, with plenty of opportunities for us to get to know one another better.
Booking forms will be available in early September (for catering purposes).
Celebrating all God’s gifts!
On the evening of Saturday 12th October we will be holding our harvest supper. As well as celebrating God’s gift of a good harvest, we will also be celebrating one-another by showcasing our talents… So, if you might be able to recite a poem, sing a song, perform a sketch, tell a story (or a joke?) then get your thinking cap on and get rehearsing. This is part of our parish weekend, however we would love you to come and join us in the evening, even if you can’t manage the rest of the day on Saturday.
Small Groups
The Bible Society’s Bible Course has proved a great success, attracting over 30 people to our 3 groups. Those who attended have a better understanding of the relationship between the Old and New Testaments and how God has led and continues to lead his people through the centuries.
In September, we shall be studying Paul’s letter to the Romans. Do come and join us!
Come and Sing Vivaldi’s Gloria
Wroughton Choral Society are hosting a Come and Sing Vivaldi’s Gloria on Saturday 28th September in Wroughton Parish Church from 11am to 5pm.
Cost is £10 to cover expenses and refreshments but lunch is not provided. For more details or to book email denisebloomer@gmail.com or call 521891.
Ride and Stride
‘This year’s Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride for Churches event takes place on Saturday 14th September. The event raises funds for the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, a charity involved in giving grants for the maintenance of our historic places of worship in the County.
The event takes place between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm on the Saturday and participants visit as many of the local participating Wiltshire Churches as they choose, either by cycling, walking or even on horseback! The event is sponsored, with the participant typically raising more, with the more Churches visited. The participating churches provide a wonderful range of rural and urban churches, in many architectural styles and fashions to admire. This year the event has a special launch by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, taking place at St Bartholomew’s Church, Corsham.
If you would like to take part, please contact your parish organiser for the event, Mike Mason. Mike can be contacted via the office email: office@wroughton.com or in person. Mike can provide further details and a sponsorship form – there is also a JustGiving option available.’
CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD
Phil and Sylvie Good – our CMS mission partners
It was wonderful to be able to welcome Sylvie in church on 28th July during her short break from Beirut in Lebanon and to hear about their work at The Life Center, amongst children and refugees. Please continue to pray for Phil and Sylvie. We have been asked to pray:
- That a new strategic funding partner can be found to support the Life Center’s educational work
- That the mothers attending The Center will learn how to play more effectively with their children
- That many more of the refugees will come to know and love Jesus.
This week please also pray for:-
- Phil and Sylvie Good our Church Mission Society link partners.
- For the family and friends of Matthew & Scott Peel as they are Christened in Church today.
- For the family & friends of Nigel & Claire as they prepare for their marriage.
- For all those who have received A levels results and those receiving GCSE’s this week.
- We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Marion Orman, Brian Marno, Peggie Hayward, Maurice Chesson and William Smith. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.
