Growing Leaders

Growing Leaders is a high quality course produced by CPAS that aims to equip leaders by helping them to be led more by Jesus, to lead more like Jesus and to lead more to Jesus. The course is aimed at people who either already have some leadership responsibility (whether in church or secular employment) or who have the potential to grow in this area. In Swindon Deanery it is being run by Revd Phill and Revd Sally Robertson from North Swindon. Sessions will held be once a month during 2020. If you would like to know more there is an introductory session on 25th November at 7:30pm at The Deanery Academy (Community Room). Please sign up on Eventbrite: http//bit.ly/GLintro20, it’s free but we need to know how many people are coming.

Pray and Bless Wroughton and Wichelstowe

We will be meeting again to pray for our parish and the people who live here at 7:30pm in the Church Hall THIS TUESDAY (19th). As people start to think about Christmas we will be focusing on praying that God blesses and touches them over the festive season ahead. We pray in a variety of creative ways, which this month will include eating mince pies. If you’ve never been before why not give it a try?

Wroughton Christmas lights switch on

Wroughton Churches together will be supporting the Christmas lights switch on at 4:30pm on Saturday 30th November by singing carols, led by Wroughton Silver Band. Come along and add your voice.

Parish finances – an update

Following our Stewardship campaign in July, we’re delighted to be able to report that our weekly planned giving income has increased by £218. This almost fills the £241 weekly ‘hole’ in our finances and means that we can begin to plan a budget for 2020 that looks more sustainable. We are anticipating that we will still have a deficit in 2020, but we are now in a much better position. As a church, and as individuals, we give thanks to God for all that we have and we continue to trust in Him to provide for our needs.

Diocesan Monthly News

Each month the diocese of Bristol publishes a newsletter that share news, stories and encouragements from around the Diocese. The October edition has just been published and Wroughton and Wichelstowe gets a mention. See: https://www.bristol.anglican.org/news/2019/10/23/caring-creation-wroughton/

Wroughton Choral Society

Wroughton Choral Society invite you to their Christmas concert at 7pm on Sunday 8th December at Wroughton Parish Church. The programme is a mixture of folk songs, choir carols, instrumental music, readings and carols for all to join in with.  Refreshments will be served. Tickets are £6 and may be obtained from choir members or at the door. For further information contact Janet 01793525856.

Rainbow Bookshop, Edgeware Road, Swindon

We are very fortunate to have a Christian Bookshop in Swindon when so many other shops in the town are closing down.  Rainbow bookshop sells so much more than books, there is a wide range of cards, gifts, devotional items and cd’s.  Please try and support the shop, as it really is a case of ‘Use it or lose it’.

CHURCH IN THE WIDER WORLD

Tearfund

Our mission prayers during October and November concentrate on Tearfund, a Christian organisation that works in many countries of the world helping to improve the lives of marginalised people. Much of their work involves promoting self-help groups in communities so that people learn to use and share what resources they have in a more economical and productive way. In Pakistan they are encouraging imaginative ways of recycling the large piles of plastic waste which have become a health hazard. This not only reduces the impact of the plastic on the environment, but also creates an income for the local people.

There are petition cards on the coffee table in church, addressing the problem of single-use plastics by big businesses. Please take a card, fill it in and send it off as directed. Together we can be very effective in bringing about change.  Please pray:

  • for the communities in Pakistan as they address the problems caused by plastic waste
  • for the involvement of Tearfund with local self-help groups
  • for their “rubbish campaign” to succeed in persuading large businesses to reduce single-use plastics

Toys for Beirut

When Sylvie Good visited us last month, we asked whether there was anything specific that our church could provide  for her work as our CMS partner in Beirut. She asked if we could donate some construction toys for the Syrian refugee children Sylvie and her husband Phil will be coming back to Wroughton to visit us again on 5th January so can take any donations back with them. If you would like to give a construction toy, please bring it to church for the Mission Matters team to collect.

This week please pray for:-

  • Tearfund
  • The parents and families of Leah & Oliva Mckee and Luke Williams as they are Christened on Sunday
  • Those people affected by the floods in the North of England
  • The 4 Let’s group that meet at the Deanery
  • Pray & Bless Wroughton & Wichelstowe
  • For Swindon Food Collective
  • We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have died recently especially Jean Cousins, Oscar Darling and Noreen Paige. We pray for all who mourn the loss of loved ones.

Legge house prayer point

We give thanks, because we have been extremely busy in the last three months. We now have a young full time  assistant, Theo Roberts.  Theo will be going to India in January with  ‘Youth With A Mission’,  in the meantime  Mark and Sheila will be able to have much needed time off, while the centre continues to be well used.
