Reconvening of Church Men’s Group
The Men’s Group that formerly met periodically up to the outbreak of Covid has arranged to meet up again on Saturday 4th June at the Church Hall, starting at 9.00 am. The aim is to start with a cooked breakfast from the Hall kitchen, to be followed by initial social time, discussion about the preferred basis for future meetings, a short bible study and a concluding time of prayer. The aim is to conclude by 11.00 am at the latest. If you are interested in coming along, could you please notify Mike Mason on 07899 041596 or email: masonmj@ntlworld so numbers can be tracked for catering.
Tuesday Evening Bible Study Group
Over the next 3 weeks, the Tuesday evening Bible study group will be looking at a course called ‘For such a time as this’ exploring ecological justice. If you would like to join us for an evening of discussion, fellowship and prayer, please come along to 12 Artis Avenue at 7.30pm. See Carolyn Kirk for further information.
Schools
We are continuing to engage with the schools in our parish. Rev. Phill has been doing lots of work at the Deanery and will be joining students for RE lessons during this term. I have been building links with the Infants and Junior schools in Wroughton as well as the Kingfisher school in Wichelstowe. Before Easter, this included helping teach several lessons at the Juniors’ and meeting with Year 3 classes to talk about Easter and its significance for Christians. I also led an assembly, getting children from Year 4 and Year 6 to act out the Easter story.
This went really well and the children really enjoyed the chance to do some acting! This term, we are looking at opportunities for all of the year groups to make visits to our church, have an explore and talk about what they find. We are also trying to find ways to join in with the life of each school and offering pastoral support to teachers and other members of staff. Rev. Chris
Pastoral care
We have recently started a pastoral care team to visit people and offer support where it is needed. If you would like a visit from a member of the team, or would like someone to talk to about any issue, please contact Rev. Chris or email curate@wroughton.com so we can arrange a meeting. We would love to support you and join with you in your Christian journey.
Wroughton Choral Society Farewell Concert
Wroughton Choral Society and friends will hold a Platinum and Silver Jubilee Concert on Saturday 14th May in the Parish Church at 7.30pm. The concert is free, and tickets are not necessary. There will be a retiring collection for the Prospect Hospice. The concert celebrates both the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the Silver Jubilee (delayed from 2021) of Wroughton Choral Society. It is also the farewell concert of WCS as falling numbers have made continuation of the Society unsustainable. Music will include favourites from both Royal coronations and past jubilees together with some favourites of WCS members. John Henderson

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation
May – Holiday highlights
- If you are staying away choose your hotel carefully. Depending on the level of luxury, meat served, food wasted, energy wasted with excess heating etc your night could cost you 3 to 60kg CO2e per person per night.
- Slow down and relax on: Drive at 60mph on the motorway and 50mph on main roads and save 10% on fuel and CO2e emissions.
Funerals
We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have, died recently Harold Wilkins. We pray for all those who mourn the loss of a loved one.
The Church Office
The Office will be closed from Wednesday 18th May and will reopen on Monday 30th May as I will be on annual leave. Any queries please contact the Barbara or the Curate. Janet
