Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and Meeting to Elect Churchwardens– these meetings will be held in church on Sunday 21 May starting at 11.15am in church. There will be vacancies on the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and also on Swindon Deanery Synod so please pray about whether you might be called to volunteer for either of these roles. If you have been on the Electoral Roll for at least six months and would like to stand for election, nomination forms are available from either the Parish Office or Helen Toomer (htoomer@outlook.com) or at the back of church. If you are interested or would like more information please speak to any of the current PCC members or to the Vicar.

Deanery CE Academy update

Sadly Pete Scutt decided to leave his post as Headteacher at Easter. Pete had been an integral part of the school since the beginning of its journey in 2019, most recently in the role of Headteacher. Pete had always been driven by a passion to enable all young people to flourish; through their learning, the way in which they overcome challenges and their wider exploration of the world. He will be missed. Please hold him in your prayers as he moves on to the next step of his career.

Dan Neal, who has been working with the school in recent months, has agreed to undertake the position of interim Headteacher until September 2024. Dan is highly experienced in action led school improvement, having been a Principal and Executive Principal within three Secondary Academies and one all-through Academy as well as the Regional Lead for School Improvement. Please pray for Dan and the whole school community during this time change and challenge: Come Holy Spirit, fill the school with the light and love of your presence. Amen.

Legacy gift thank you

We are grateful to the late Stella Ellis for the legacy gift that she left us in her will.

Parish weekend date reminder

We are planning joint parish weekend with Discovery Church this year. We have been able to book a really inspiring speaker for the Saturday and are busy planning our programme for the rest of the weekend. Please save the date and keep the weekend of 24th and 25th of June free in your diary if you can!

Discovery church celebration!

As you may know, Wroughton Discovery Church are now fully installed in their new home at the Gospel Hall on Markham Road. This is a new chapter for them, having not had a permanent base for many years. They have worked really hard to renovate the Gospel Hall and are hoping that it will be well used in the service of Christian mission in Wroughton. They would like to invite (all of) us to their belated opening celebration on 21st May from 5:45pm. Revd. Phill be going and it would be great to see a group from our church there to show our support for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Warm Space

Since January we have been hosting a weekly ‘Warm Space’ between 2pm and 4pm in the Church Hall. The weather is now much improved (thankfully!) and a warm space is no longer needed in the same way. This Sunday (30th April) will therefore be our last session – do come along. Whilst there is now less need for physical warmth, we recognise that these sessions were meeting other needs by providing a place for people to have longer conversations, to enjoy each other’s company and feel connected to the church community. The Church Hall has the advantage of being accessible for those who use mobility scooters, as well as a more flexible and welcoming venue for less formal gatherings. Following a PCC discussion, we have therefore decided to evolve Warm Space into a monthly ‘Gathering Space’ on the last Sunday of the month, beginning on Sunday 28th May. See you there.

Carnival Saturday 8th July

This year Community Engagement and Open the Book have decided to combine to enter a walking float in the Carnival Procession. The theme is ‘gardening and growing’ so we have decided that we will represent the ‘Garden of Eden’ We will have plants and animals (snake) but no Adam and Eve.  If you are available and able to walk the route, or able to help to  make plants etc. please contact Barbara.

Thanks from Mission to Seafarers

I received this email from Mission to Seafarers thanking us for hats and scarves.

‘Just to let you know we have safely received your parcel of 35 hats and 3 scarves.

Could you forward our many thanks to the Knitters of Wroughton and Wichelstowe church for their beautiful donations.’

My thanks also. Please keep knitting those hats, scarves and squares. We’re very close to assembling two more blankets for GWH.  Janet Henderson.

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation

April – In the bathroom

  1. If your toilet cistern holds more than 6 litres of water (likely if it was installed before 2001) put a Hippo Water Saving device (or a brick) in it to save water each time you flush (eg http://www.hippo-the-watersaver.co.uk/)
  2. Fit a water efficient shower head (if you’ve got a shower that takes hot water straight from your boiler or hot water tank). This will reduce your hot water usage while retaining the sensation of a powerful shower.
  3. Switch to eco cleaning products which biodegrade in the sewerage system and don’t damage aquatic life in our rivers and seas. They also contain less harmful chemical  for us too.

Floodlighting

We are having problems with the floodlighting due to a electrical fault, we need new fuse boards.  We are unable to take any floodlighting requests until this has been rectified. We will let you know when this has been sorted.

Photo’s for the Notices

Don’t forget to email your photo’s perhaps a snap from outing / holiday and we can guess where you are and I will reveal it the following week.

Funerals

We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have, died recently, Nicolas Mula, Sylvia Morse and

Betty Tarrant.  We pray for all those who mourn the loss of a loved one.
