Revd Chris update
From the start of September Revd Chris will be taking up the part-time role of Curate in Charge of the Benefice of Wanborough and Liddington, Bishopstone with Hinton Parva. This is a half-time role and in the other half of his time he will continue as our Curate here in Wroughton and Wichelstowe. His primary focus will be on supporting and guiding the four villages through a continuing long vacancy. It’s great that Chris is now ready to take this step and that he can begin to ‘fly solo’ – this experience is part of his training and will stand him in good stead for the future. Revd Phill.
Upper Churchyard Volunteers – further working party dates
Thank you to everyone who’s been helping with maintaining the upper churchyard ….. it’s really appreciated and we are beginning to see results! However, this is the growing season so the work never stops…. ! Please join us if you can on Tuesday 29th August from 6pm by the garage/workstore, to help out for a couple of hours. Tea & cake available as usual! We’re still short of equipment so it’s useful if you can bring tools, broom, strimmer etc. If you can’t make those dates but want to help, then there is now a key safe for access to the garage/workstore – where you will find equipment & a work plan. Please speak to Helena at church or contact on 07909 882150 …… helenaxthomas@hotmail.co.uk
Open the Book
As you may know we have teams of people who go into Wroughton Infants, and East Wichel Primary to read and act out Bible stories for the children. Over the last year or so we have lost some of our team and so we are looking for some new people to join us. At the moment we are not being required to go into the schools too often and both schools are preferring Mondays at the moment (at different times of day) but this may change. If you could spare some time (less than an hour) to be part of our team, could be an emergency extra, or want to know more, please let Revd. Barbara Abrey or Joan Orman know.
Community Engagement
Being visible in the community is a vital part of our mission to Wroughton and Whichelstowe. The Community Engagement group like to be present at village events, like The Duck Race and Carnival as well as putting on family events through the year. This is about the whole community, not just children and families, so we would like as many people as possible to come up with ideas and organise events. If you would like to contribute in any way you can come onto our WhatsApp group. You will find out what is going on and be able to volunteer for the things that interest you. If you think you could contribute in any way please speak to Joan Orman, Carolyn Kirk, or Revd. Barbara Abrey.
Filling Station Driver(s) needed!
Would you like to join our team of drivers? We have a couple of vacancies. The Filling Station van (a Ford Transit) goes into town every Thursday evening. The session is a couple of hours long in total, and each driver has an average of one drive per month.
Our insurance dictates that all drivers must be over 30 years of age; there are no other stipulations. If you would like to help, please feel free to catch me in church or email me at jools008@btinternet.com
Many thanks in anticipation. Andrew Bond
Wiltshire Historic Churches Ride and Stride 2023
Advance notice that this year’s event where sponsored cyclists, horse riders and walkers can visit local churches in aid of the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, is to take place on Saturday 9th September 2023.
If you are interested in taking part in this popular long-standing event that raises money to help maintain Wiltshire’s historic church buildings, please contact local organiser for the Parish, Mike Mason on email: masonmj@ntlworld.com
Are you First Aid Trained?
The PCC take the safety and welfare of worshippers seriously and are wondering if you have a valid First Aid / medical qualification? If so would you be willing to help in the unfortunate event of someone having an accident or medical incident in Church? You would be joining our existing team who need more members. There is no rota involved, just a case of knowing who to ask if anything should occur.
Please give your details to Mark Tubey (LLM & Safeguarding Officer), Lorna Robinson (PCC Secretary) or contact Janet in the Office.
Summer steps challenge for Dementia UK
I started this challenge to walk 1 million steps during June July and August on 1st June and set myself a mini target to get to 500,000 steps by July 15th On my very soggy walk on Friday 14th July I exceeded this. My total to that day is 506,479 which is 217 miles.
Dementia UK supports dementia sufferers and their families and friends.

Eco Top Tips – practical ways to take better care of God’s creation
August – In the car
- In the car drive away immediately when starting from cold – idling to heat the engine wastes fuel.
- When driving the most efficient speed depends upon the car in question but is typically around 55 – 65mph, faster speeds will greatly increase your fuel consumption. Slow down and allow a little more time for journeys.
Phil & Sylvie Good
We have been informed that Phil and Sylvie Good whom we have been supporting for a while will be leaving CMS in September and returning to the UK from Lebanon. Please pray for them as they come back to England and transition into retirement. They have family links in Wiltshire. We will be prayerfully considering how best to focus our future Missionary support.
Funerals
We commend to God’s care and keeping those who have, died recently Franklyn Alexander and Eric Archer.
We pray for all those who mourn the loss of a loved one.
